Abrion Major was a planet covered in islands and one of the hundreds of agriworlds located in the Outer Rim Territories' Abrion sector. Shortly after the outbreak of the Clone Wars, led by Senator Esu Rotsino, Abrion Major as well as the rest of the Abrion sector seceded from the Galactic Republic to the Confederacy of Independent Systems. Rotsino then represented Abrion Major and the other worlds of the Abrion sector in the Separatist Senate.
Around 22 BBY, Jedi General Obi-Wan Kenobi led the 212th Attack Battalion on an assault at Abrion Bridge, in order to prevent the Separatist from producing a new Mega-ion cannon at a weapons factory. The Galactic Republic was successful in the assault but suffered heavy losses.
Description
Abrion Major was a terrestrial planet with many islands.
Abrion Major was a terrestrial planet[1] in the Abrion Major system[3] in the Abrion sector, located in the Slice portion of the Outer Rim Territories. One of two-hundred others within its sector, Abrion Major was an agriworld that helped formed the galaxy's bread-basket that was the Abrion sector. As such, their primary export was foodstuffs, delivered to the rest of the galaxy.[1]
Abrion Major was home to an archipelago located in the Western sea. Located on the central island of the achipelago, was a weapons factory under control of the Confederacy of Independent Systems. The planet had one sun that, in the opinion of Jedi General Obi-Wan Kenobi, created breathtaking sunrises.[4]
History
Seceding from the Republic
Prior to the outbreak of the Clone Wars, the politician Esu Rotsino was made the senator for the entire Abrion sector, representing her homeworld and the sector in the Galactic Republic Senate.[1] Around 22 BBY,[5] shortly after the Republic had initiated conflict with the opposing Confederacy of Independent Systems, Rotsino recognized the Republic's stifling bureaucratic procedures and inequitable trade. Tendering the formal articles of secession, the Abrion sector seceded from the Republic into the Confederacy under her guidance, offering her a seat in the Separatist Senate as representative for Abrion Major and the sector as a whole. Abrion Major thus became a crucial point for the regional Separatist war-effort, primarily in their offensives along the Corellian Run in the Trailing Sectors. The Separatists had also sought to cause food crises in several Republic sectors, due to Abrion Major's and the entire Abrion sector's role as the galactic bread-basket.[1]
Battle of Abrion Bridge
Republic forces suffered heavy casualties during the battle.
Before the destruction of Rishi Station, the Galactic Republic recovered intelligence regarding the Separatist producing a new Mega-ion cannon at a weapons factory on Abrion Major. The only way to reach the factory was through the Abrion Bridge. Sometime following the Rishi Station battle, Jedi General Obi-Wan Kenobi and the 212th Attack Battalion volunteered to lead the assault. The battalion was joined by Commander Mekedrix, Lieutenant Oron and his company.[4]
The Republic deployed several Low Altitude Assault Transports to the bridge but came under heavy fire from the factory defenses. Although suffering heavy losses, the clone troopers and Republic forces were able to land on the bridge but met stiff Separatist resistance. Mekedrix's company cut through the defenses and was already reaching the factory. Despite the setbacks, Kenobi's forces were able to reach the factory and steal the plans to the ion cannon. But as the Republic retreated, they were met by IG-series assassin droid units and IG-227 Hailfire-class droid tanks who were held back until the Republic was trapped on the bridge. Despite Republic bombers inbound to destroy the bridge, Kenobi refused to leave his men behind. Unfortunately he was unable to rescue many of them, leaving behind many casualties on the bridge.[4]
