- "This place isn't a fortress. It's a tomb."
- ―Obi-Wan Kenobi, discovering Velerie Tide and other deceased Jedi
Velerie Tide was a Force-sensitive human[2] female[3] who was a member of the Jedi Order. After the Galactic Republic turned on the Jedi during the Great Jedi Purge[2] that began in 19 BBY,[1] Tide hid her identity and blended in among the locals on the astronomical object Athio III, but was eventually revealed to be a user of the Force and captured. After she died, her body was entombed in amber and displayed in the Jedi tomb of the Fortress Inquisitorius on the moon Nur, headquarters of the Galactic Empire's Jedi-hunting Inquisitorius.[2]
In 9 BBY,[1] fugitive Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi discovered Tide and the remains of many other captive Jedi in the tomb while infiltrating the fortress to rescue Princess Leia Organa.[4] Tide was entombed with a haunted stare while wearing a hand-made necklace, a knitted poncho[3] with multicolored stripes, and a head scarf around her dark, curly hair.[4]
Behind the scenes
Velerie Tide appeared in the fourth episode of the Obi-Wan Kenobi television series,[4] which aired on June 8, 2022.[5] The character was not identified in the episode[4] but was named in the reference book Star Wars: Dawn of Rebellion: The Visual Guide,[2] within a section written by Emily Shkoukani.[6] The page mentioning Tide was revealed prior[7] to the book's November 2, 2023 release[8] at a Lucasfilm Publishing panel at San Diego Comic Con and in an article on StarWars.com covering it on July 21, 2023.[7]
