The Vatleria system was a star system located within the Calaron sector,[1] inside the Slice portion of the Outer Rim Territories.[2]
The system contained the dying, dark, and foggy planet Vatleria, which was located near safer colony worlds. Vatleria was long abandoned by its inhabitants before the Galactic Civil War between the Alliance to Restore the Republic and the Galactic Empire.[4] By 0 BBY,[5] due to Vatleria's proximity to thriving colonies, the Empire began to establish a base within the stone ruins of Vatleria, intelligence of which was passed from an informant to the Alliance team known as the Rebel Four. The team—led by F4-MF and including operatives Soo Rcharrz, Falaem Onn, and Grimgrim—travelled to the ruins, where they confirmed the presence of Imperial stormtroopers and attacked. The Rebels were defeated by lethal traps activated by the Sith Lord Darth Vader.[4]
Behind the scenes
The planet Vatleria first appeared in "The Rebel Four," a comic story written and illustrated by Jay Stephens and published in the ninth issue of the anthology series Star Wars Tales[4] by Dark Horse Comics on October 10, 2001.[6] Although the story was not considered canonical within the Star Wars Legends continuity,[4] the star system where it took place was identified within the 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas by Daniel Wallace and Jason Fry, which placed it in grid square T-9.[3] Vatleria's name is an an anagram of Latveria, the homeland of Doctor Doom, the antagonist of the Marvel Comics supehero team the Fantastic Four.[7]
