Description
- "The Rebel Four hesitate for nothing!"
- ―F4-MF during a team huddle
The Rebel Four were a team of freedom fighters affiliated with the Alliance to Restore the Republic. Led by the IG-series droid F4-MF, the team's members included the Wookiee Grimgrim and the Humanoids Falaem Onn and Soo Rcharrz. Each member of the team wielded their own blasters, and every member aside from Rcharrz wore gear that featured the Alliance Starbird.[1]
History
- "Sigh. These pathetic Rebels are no match for the power of the dark side."
- ―Darth Vader, after defeating the Rebel Four
The Rebel Four attacks stormtroopers on Vatleria.
By 0 BBY,[2] during the Galactic Civil War, the Rebel Four received intelligence from an informant that the Galactic Empire—whom the Alliance were fighting in the war—were establishing a secret base in the stone ruins on[1] the Outer Rim[3] planet Vatleria. The team Mission to Vatleria traveled to the ruins, where F4-MF confirmed the presence of Imperial stormtroopers there. Rcharrz asked what their leader's plan was, and the IG-series droid confirmed that they would stop the Empire. The team huddled as the droid announced that they would hesitate for nothing and would defeat the small number of stormtroopers at the base. They charged into battle as F4-MF loudly declared that it was "Rebellin' time."[1]
F4-MF, Rcharrz, and Onn fired at the stormtroopers while Grimgrim raised one over their head. Their attack was observed nearby via screens by the Sith Lord Darth Vader, who was unsurprised at the assault due to his powers with the dark side of the Force. Vader activated traps in which ropes ensnared each of the Rebel Four and pulled them into a gruesome death chamber—F4-MF was stretched into pieces, Onn burned to death, Grimgrim was crushed by falling rocks, and Rcharrz was vaporised, ending the Rebel Four. Vader afterward expressed disappointment at how easily they were defeated.[1]
Behind the scenes
The logo of the Rebel Four
The Rebel Four appeared in the comic story of the same name, written and illustrated by Jay Stephens and published in the ninth issue of the anthology series Star Wars Tales[1] by Dark Horse Comics on October 10, 2001. The members of the team[4] resemble the Marvel Comics superhero team the Fantastic Four,[5] with their fates also echoing the powers of those characters.[1] The first part of F4-MF's initials shares those of the Fantastic Four, and the latter half shares initials with Mister Fantastic, the elasticity power-wielding leader of the team.[5] Falaem Onn's name is similar to "Flame on," the catchphrase of Human Torch,[6] and Onn is depicted flying and burns to death,[1] traits similar to the fire-powered Marvel character.[6] Soo Rcharrz's name and death[1] resemble that of Sue Richards, the Invisible Woman.[5] Grimgrim's name bears resemblance[1] to that of The Thing, Benjamin Grimm, a character with a rocky appearance;[7] Grimgrim is crushed by rocks in the comic. Additionally, F4-MF uses the catchphrase "It's Rebellin' time,"[1] similar to the Thing's catchphrase "It's clobberin' time."[7]
