Mission to Vatleria

The subject of this article appeared only in a Star Wars Tales 1–20 story that was referenced in no other Star Wars Legends source. Lucasfilm considered all Tales 1–20 content that was not "completely outrageous or intentionally comic" to have some level of canonicity within the Star Wars Legends continuity. The title of this article is conjectural. Although this article is based on official non-canon information, the actual name of this subject is pure conjecture.

During the Galactic Civil War, an Alliance to Restore the Republic team known as the Rebel Four went on a mission to attack an Imperial base on the planet Vatleria. The team attacked several stormtroopers but were trapped by the Sith Lord Darth Vader, who executed each of the Rebel Four in their own death chambers. Vader felt hollow after the Imperial victory and expressed a desire to fight a Jedi once more.

Prelude

During the Galactic Civil War between the Galactic Empire and the Alliance to Restore the Republic, the Empire sought to establish a base within the stone ruins on the abandoned dark and foggy planet Vatleria^[1] in the Calaron sector of the galaxy's Outer Rim.^[3] No later than 0 BBY,^[2] an informant provided intelligence regarding the base's development to the Rebel Four, an Alliance team of freedom fighters consisting of their leader, the IG-series droid F4-MF; the Wookiee Grimgrim, and the operatives Falaem Onn and Soo Rcharrz. The Rebel Four travelled to the stone ruins to attack the Imperial base.^[1]

The mission

On Vatleria, the Rebel Four evaded the base's patrolling stormtroopers, after which F4-MF confirmed that the informant's intelligence was accurate. With the objective of stopping the Imperials, the team huddled together before storming into the base. F4-MF, Rcharrz, and Onn fired at the stormtroopers while Grimgrim grabbed one and raised it over their head. Meanwhile, the Sith Lord Darth Vader, unsurprised by the attack due to his powers with the dark side of the Force, observed the Rebels through a screen and activated traps that pulled the Rebels into individual death chambers. The four were quickly eliminated: F4-MF was stretched into pieces, Onn burned to death, Grimgrim was crushed by rocks, and Rcharrz was disintegrated.^[1]

Aftermath

Vader was disappointed at how easily the Rebels had been defeated and expressed a desire to face a Jedi in lightsaber combat again to an Imperial officer. The officer believed Vader was joking and claimed that the Empire should take pride in swiftly defeating its enemies. The Sith responded by choking the officer through the Force. Vader eventually had his wish fulfilled^[1] by facing his former Jedi Master, Obi-Wan Kenobi, in 0 BBY.^[2]

Behind the scenes

The mission to Vatleria appeared in "The Rebel Four," a comic non-canon to the Star Wars Legends continuity that was written and illustrated by Jay Stephens and published in the ninth issue of the anthology series Star Wars Tales^[1] by Dark Horse Comics on October 10, 2001.^[4]
