Archive 1

  • Silly Dan, could you archive some of the VIPs. It takes a long time to load that page if I am using a dial-up connection. Thanks. Atarumaster88 01:52, 28 August 2006 (UTC)
    • I could, but I am too lazy today. Anyway, StarNeptune fixed it. 8) —Silly Dan (talk) 21:33, 28 August 2006 (UTC)
  • This is kind of a strange request, so I hope you don't mind: According to my contributions logs, I have over 1000 edits on Wookieepedia. Would you mind placing the 1k edit box on my page? I know how to do it, but I'd rather it be bestowed, rather than self-placed. Regards, Atarumaster88 14:48, 28 August 2006 (UTC)
    • No, you fix your userpage as you like. You don't need permission for that. —Silly Dan (talk) 21:33, 28 August 2006 (UTC)
      • I understand perfectly and I did it myself just a minute ago. I know I don't need permission- it just seemed more significant to have a trusted admin place it there. Maybe I have a strange way of thinking. Never mind. Atarumaster88 03:16, 29 August 2006 (UTC)

My Userpage - again

  • I have just discovered, there's a rule on images on one's userpage. I have 4 images (Not including my infobox), Userboxes, and 4 galleries of My screenshots, My Watchlist, and the Hutts. I've been getting complements on the page for being excellent and amazing. I've worked very hard on it and would hate to dimolish it. Could it be an acception? --Jabbathehuttgartogg 30px 30px 19:20, 28 August 2006 (UTC)
    • Personally, I think you don't need quite so many images: but note, Wookieepedia:User image policy only sets a limit on the number and size of images only used on your userpage. We haven't set a limit on the number of images used both on your userpage and in articles — and I haven't checked all the images on your page to see how many are also used in articles. (I should also note that we haven't made a user signature policy yet, but we're recommending 20 rather than 30 pixels for images in sigs.) —Silly Dan (talk) 21:42, 28 August 2006 (UTC)
  • Well, thanks. I'm sorry about the Sig. I'll change right after this. Hope you enjoyed it at least. Just if you do make the policies will my page be affected? --Jabbathehuttgartogg 30px 30px 22:08, 28 August 2006 (UTC) - last time you'll see it exactly this way.
    • I've proposed a new TEMPLATE. See if you like it. It's on the Senate hall page. Plus, here's my fixed Sig. --Jabbathehuttgartogg 20px 20px 22:13, 28 August 2006 (UTC)
      • Thanks: it breaks up the text less at 20px. I don't know why you need two symbols, but we don't have a set policy yet. 8) Anyway, the user page and user images policies are already considered policy, but your page would only be affected if we find they're in violation: and you'd be given a chance to fix it yourself first. —Silly Dan (talk) 22:23, 28 August 2006 (UTC)
  • Another guy has one Dijjicic (As much as I lov'em i can't spell 'nor pernonce it) symbol. It looks better with two. It makes me more devine or unique. Everyone else has a lightsaber, impereal or rebel thing on there's. It's hard for me, 'cause jabba's in 3 movies and he's in 2 VERY breifly. Dooku's way too common of a favorite, so he's not on my sig. Though he's the one who helped me get through Ep.2, Ep.3 he died very early, so my fav. in that movie was Palpatine. Ep.5 I loved, even without my two favs. in it. Ep. 4's special edition is better for one reason.... Ep.6 is my ultimate favorite because of Him. Plus, I never liked darth vader. That's why I have two dijjject-thingy-magigy symbols on my sig. --Jabbathehuttgartogg 20px 20px 22:48, 28 August 2006 (UTC)
  • You may want to check the Consensus track thread on signature policy with your thoughts. A few users are against all images in signatures. —Silly Dan (talk) 03:25, 29 August 2006 (UTC)

User pages

Hi I'm new here and I just want to ask you something. Let's say you choose a username of your favorite character and you decide to place the article on your userpage, does it violate Wookiee's policies? Anakin SoloJedi (Hero to the Enemy)35px 23:09, 28 August 2006 (UTC)

Requests

  • Silly Dan, a few more things. First, if you ever need to tell me to stop bothering you, let me know.Second, you might want to look under the Star Wars favorites section on my userpage- you might find something you like. You could also sign my "guest book." Thirdly, can you add Second Battle of Borleias (Yuuzhan Vong War) to the FA queue. It's been a week, it has five votes, and no objections. Atarumaster88 03:37, 29 August 2006 (UTC)
  • Did the latter: I wasn't in a hurry, as it won't actually get on the main page until Christmas. —Silly Dan (talk) 23:31, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

Archive 2

  • Hi, can you help me create an archive for my talk page, please. Jaina SoloGoddess Stuff20px 20:08, 30 August 2006 (UTC)
  • All you need to do is:
  1. Create a subpage for your talk page (say, User talk:Jaina Solo/Archive 1)
  2. Copy all the conversations from your current talk page that you want archived to the archive page. You may also want to put a note saying the date range of the archive, and a reminder that since it's an archive, people shouldn't leave messages on it.
  3. Delete all of the archived conversations from your talk page, and put a link to the archive at the top of your talk page.

It's easy. —Silly Dan (talk) 20:29, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

  • Silly Dan, thanks for the tip on the RFA post. Also, how much talk is necessary to have a sub-page? If there's no policy, give me a general idea or look at my page and tell me please. Thanks. Atarumaster88 20px (Audience Chamber) 04:09, 31 August 2006 (UTC)
    • When the talk page is big enough that trying to edit the whole thing at once gives you the "this page is too long: try dividing it into sections" warning, that's a good sign. But it's entirely up to you: just use your common sense. —Silly Dan (talk) 11:42, 31 August 2006 (UTC)

Alert

Razzy

That would be fine with me. Kuralyov 21:50, 31 August 2006 (UTC)

  • OK, it's up to him then. —Silly Dan (talk) 21:54, 31 August 2006 (UTC)
    • Actually, after listening to a tantrum he threw at me and after he sockpuppet-vandalized my user page, I retract that and now reccomend he stay blocked permanently. Kuralyov 23:57, 31 August 2006 (UTC)
      • Do we have evidence they're the same person? I suspect it's actually one of our repeat vandals: at least one of them apparently likes to lurk here, make note of disputes, pretend to be another user, and vandalise the wiki while pretending to be on one side or another. I'll make a checkuser request on #wikia. —Silly Dan (talk) 00:02, 1 September 2006 (UTC)

Template

I see my template is a sucess. Do you mind if you can give me a link to the template page. I know it's here but can't seem to remember it's name. If it's OK I'll put the Jabba Temp. on it. --Jabbathehuttgartogg 20px 20px 01:40, 1 September 2006 (UTC)

Closing My Account

I've had too much trouble and personal insults thrown at me with my current account. I would like to have it shut down and I'm in need of knowing how. I don't want to just leave it and start afresh - I want it shut down. Can this be down without blocking it and if so how? Many thanks - Vattic 20:29, 1 September 2006

There is no way for the administrators on this site to delete accounts. If you want to leave, you can do simply stop editing, or put {{user left}} on your user page. If you want to come back, you can start editing again and take that template off.
However, I do have a couple of concerns about your reasons for leaving. I don't see any insults directed at you on your talk page, so I'm not sure what problems you're referring to. If you are being harassed, you should report it on Forum:Administrators' noticeboard.
You also mention on your userpage that "I intend to make my page look a lot better and include many more images." If this is the reason you wanted to start over, don't worry too much about that: your user page is not the main thing this wiki's users will judge you by. —Silly Dan (talk) 20:04, 1 September 2006 (UTC)
  • My main reason for leaving is the fact that I don't have much free time on my hands anymore. I will still be able to and wish to continue contributing to Wookieepedia but feel that shutting down my account is the best option.
The personal insults were through a User who I do not wish to name. The problems were outside of Wookieepedia and occured shortly after I created my account. I managed to stop this problem for a while but it persisted. I may consider the template idea but do not wish to continue with the insults. If I continue on Wookieepedia I won't be working on my Userpage - I'll leave it. I need only to get advice from SecondSight when needed but I can do that on my talk page. Thanks for your help - your a great admin! Vattic 21:14, September 1 2006
OK then. (When and if you return, you can work on your userpage: the point is just not to work on it to the exclusion of all other activities.) —Silly Dan (talk) 20:19, 1 September 2006 (UTC)
  • You never mentioned that you were closing your account because of insults. Was it a serious matter? SecondSight 21:20, September 1 2006
  • Thanks again. And SecondSight it was bad enough for me to come to this decision. Vattic 21:23, 1 September 2006

Hutts list

I hope you like this and thinks this is cool. I am the first, and only, user to Practicly FINISH the list of Hutts list. I turned every red link to BLUE! I can't find two Hutts though. Those two I have no information for. I tried my best and hope you like. Click Here --Jabbathehuttgartogg 20px 20px 02:56, 3 September 2006 (UTC)

Editcount

Hi. There is no longer a need for setup as Darth Culator placed the appropriate code into MediaWiki:Monobook.js. Simply go to User:Editcount/editcount.js for the edit counter. G.He(Talk!) 03:46, 4 September 2006 (UTC)

  • Hmmm...that script keeps timing out on me. I'll revert my monobook.js file anyway. —Silly Dan (talk) 03:48, 4 September 2006 (UTC)
It's probably because that person has a lot of edits. You should continue the script in that case. G.He(Talk!) 03:49, 4 September 2006 (UTC)
For example, checking my edits shoudn't take long at all (since I don't really have any :P). G.He(Talk!) 03:50, 4 September 2006 (UTC)
Should've tried it on a newbie first, I guess. 8) Thanks! —Silly Dan (talk) 03:51, 4 September 2006 (UTC)
No problem. I have to go now (getting late). If you have any other questions, place them on my talk page. G.He(Talk!) 03:53, 4 September 2006 (UTC)

Brain40

Today alone Mr. 40 attacked several articles multiple times. for instance blaster gas, where he (or she) just screwed up the lay out and changed it so many times that the history became innavigable. i asked him to stop, he said he would, but then he continued on a new article can you please stop him? Ugluk: Destroyer of Redlinks 03:58, 4 September 2006 (UTC)

Project done-away

  • Look at recent changes. I have added the infoboxes to the Hutts I've added. I'll add info occastionallie, but as far as I'm concerned I"M DONE. whew! I still will work on my big bazooka,, jabba. Other than that don't expect to see me in too much other places besides Hutt territory. Though I will be on Talk pages and Forums frequently, articles I don't know. Watchlist/Talk page question

  • Silly Dan, my watchlist has been constantly making my talk page bold, even after I just went there and added something. It does not make sense. Also, recently, the special message notification with the tan colour has not been appearing on my screen whenever I receive a new message. (Never mind, I just wasn't looking at the top of my screen because I just tested it.) Do you know why? Atarumaster88 20px (Audience Chamber) 01:54, 5 September 2006 (UTC)
  • Might have something to do with your browser cache. —Silly Dan (talk) 23:29, 5 September 2006 (UTC)
    • It's still the same, but not a big deal. Another question- Jabbathehuttgartogg uploaded a new version of the pic on my main userpage (I asked him to) but the page is not showing the new pic. How do I get it to do that? Atarumaster88 20px (Audience Chamber) 19:34, 6 September 2006 (UTC)

Help

Hi. If possible, could you please come to the SWFanon Wiki [1] and help us block a vandal? His name is Proffesor Mephisto and he is an obscene vandal. If you decide to help, could you delete the sick images he uploaded too? Master 76 Holodisk Mind TrickJedi Library

So your not confused....

Finishing our discution. though, so we can comunicate easier, I won't add onto a past heading, here's a new one.

I'm acctually thinking of people asociated with Hutts. Boba fett, Zuckuss, Bossk, Gamorreans, .......

Big Gizz is my next step. I love Big Gizz, though whoever started him, didn't do well. I'll spice that up. the Boba Fett: Death, lies, and trechery book I've added to each Hutt that was in it. I have some work ahead of me yet. --Jabbathehuttgartogg 20px 20px 23:40, 5 September 2006 (UTC)

Award placement

I'm confused... when you win an award, where does the award go? User:Brain40 23:12, 6 September 2006 (UTC)

    • Yer it just seemed a bit of a personal thing to post on it but I will in the future Jedi Dude 22:09, 6 September 2006 (UTC)
      • You can also place Template:Argument on the page if it's getting out of hand. That will place the page in a category for civility disputes, which I believe an admin or two is supposed to keep an eye on. Atarumaster88 20px (Audience Chamber) 23:42, 6 September 2006 (UTC)

        • Oh because he said you earned yourself a new vandal when we blocked him, so I stil lthink its him, whatever the case a vandal is a vandal. Jedi Dude 20:03, 12 September 2006 (UTC)

Adas Xendor

I believe he was obviously the source for all the recent vandals. He was twice banned by Quentin for moving pages to fanon names, and literally minutes after the second ban was when this new wave of vandalism started, targeted at Quentin. Kuralyov 03:58, 13 September 2006 (UTC)

  • That's not my interpretation: all the other vandals we've had over the last couple of days (including a couple who preceded Adas's latest ban) were using the open proxies I blocked this evening. On the other hand, Adas was using a different IP, which was not an open proxy. Remember, we've had at least one serial vandal who enjoys using sockpuppets with names derived from recently blocked or controversial users: I suspect this is the same person who impersonated the original Crumb, and more recently Razzy1319. It's possible that Adas is using open proxies, but there's no way to prove it, and the style of vandalism seems more consistent with a return vandal to me. —Silly Dan (talk) 04:04, 13 September 2006 (UTC)

Malachor V

Hi Silly Dan. I was wondering if you could wade into the discussion over at Talk:Malachor V. I think that we could really use an independent admin observer. The Bandsaw Vigilante has taken it upon himself to continuously change the article with no support whatsoever from other users. I and Kurkolov have reverted his edits five times in just a few days and he is beginning to get quite nasty about it. I, Kuralyov, QuentinGeorge, and Sikon all disagree with him, yet he continues to mount an edit war and I am tired of dealing with it.–SentryTalk 02:57, 14 September 2006 (UTC)

  • I may look into the meat of the dispute, but I've declared myself on vacation. Try asking SFH or Azizlight, they've been contributing lately. I will protect it, however: if you and the three administrators consider it to be the "wrong version", this may mean the protection will be short-lived. soon. —Silly Dan (talk) 03:23, 14 September 2006 (UTC)

New Templates

I've been wondering whether there's a protocol for new templates. I wanted to change the 'Nominated for Featured Article' template to something other than just the Wookieepedia logo.Tocneppil 03:35, 14 September 2006 (UTC)

  • Depends what picture you want to put up. I suggest you take it up at either the senate hall or the template talk page. —Silly Dan (talk) 03:39, 14 September 2006 (UTC)
    • See "New 'Nominated For Featured Article' template" in the Senate Hall. I'm not very tech-savvy, so I mocked-up a userbox for the proposal, but all I've heard is for a response is crickets.Tocneppil 03:46, 14 September 2006 (UTC)

Speedy delete

  • Silly Dan, I put up an article Blade starfighter on Vfd, but it might just need to be speedy-deleted. Would you take a look at it and tell me? Should it be re-directed? I'm sorry I'm not one of those talented users that is good with wikicode or on IRC all the time, but I try. Atarumaster88 20px (Audience Chamber) 03:45, 15 September 2006 (UTC)
  • Also, please speedy-delete File:Award.JPG and File:Theaward2.JPG. Jabbathehuttgartogg made them for me for an award proposal- these were the two "drafts" of the image before we got the final one. Thank you. Atarumaster88 20px (Audience Chamber) 14:50, 15 September 2006 (UTC)
  • Thanks. Atarumaster88 20px (Audience Chamber) 18:30, 15 September 2006 (UTC)
    • OK, dealt with it. I should point out a couple of things, though. First off, if an image or article is a clear candidate for speedy deletion, please use the {{delete}}, {{tl|nonsense}}, or {{tl|deletebecause}} templates rather than putting a note on a single admin's page. This will result in faster deletion, since it the next admin who comes online will probably take care of it, instead of having to wait for the specific person you asked to come along. Secondly, if an article covers a legitimate topic, but overlaps 100% with another article at a better title, you can generally just change it into a redirect without putting it on VFD or using a speedy-deletion tag. If you're not clear if it should be merged, or which title is the better one, use the {{mergeto}} or {{mergewith}} tags so the merge can be discussed on the talk pages. If you're not sure how to do merges or redirects, or how to apply templates, check the editing help sections here and on Wikipedia. Finally: I'm technically on vacation from the wiki...—Silly Dan (talk) 18:37, 15 September 2006 (UTC)

Hello Silly Dan, do you have any experience with bots or do you know a wookieepedia user / admin who has? We have a serious problem over there at the German Jedipedia; a major case of vandalism is bothering us for about a week now, last weekend it escalated - someone was conducting on-wheels vandalism on large scale, possibly using bots or sockpuppets. We couldn't react in time and he vandalized hundreds of articles, registered dozens of user pages, insulted users etc. We had no choice but to disable the registration of new users for the moment altogether until we manually repaired and deleted and reverted all his edits. We were wondering if Wookieepedia uses a kind of automatic bot which is able to repair or prohibit this kind of vandalism (we will prohibit redirecting pages for new users in the future) or if anybody could give us a clue about how to program a bot which is able to deal with this type of vandalism. If you know an admin or user who could help us, could you please direct him to this thread? He could answer or discuss this problem on my user discussion page. Thank you very, very much (and sorry if you are the wrong person for this inquiry)! RC-9393 18:55, 17 September 2006 (UTC)

  • I am (sort of) the wrong guy to ask: but Sikon is the right one...I think. More on your talk page. —Silly Dan (talk) 19:10, 17 September 2006 (UTC)

"Nabooian culture"

Hey there -- I actually didn't think Nabooian was an adjective until I read The Wildlife of Star Wars, where it's used all over in the text. The category you created is fine, though. Thank you for your help! :) User:Sailornaboo

  • It is? I was sure Naboo was usually the adjective used. Oh well, that's why we have a wiki for this sort of thing...8) —Silly Dan (talk) 19:53, 24 September 2006 (UTC)

Quote box

I was wondering how to make that wikiquote box that links from the article. I made Quote:Jabba Desilijic Tiure and need a link to it on Jabba's page. -- Jabbathehuttgartogg(Rancor pit) GrappasTattoo-CrimsonEmpireII 22:49, 27 September 2006 (UTC)

Our first encounter

I don't know if you remember, but a mounth or so ago, you met me for the first time as 72.78.10.101. I haven't looked at that Talk page EVER, and got around to doing it. I didn't know anything then and It was concidered Vandilizum, for a short time. I don't know if I ever brought that up before, because I just relized I was suspected of "Vandelizum" which the user corrected himself. Just wanted to note our first real encounter. I think it was over my first article creation, Xob. -- Jabbathehuttgartogg(Rancor pit) GrappasTattoo-CrimsonEmpireII 19:16, 28 September 2006 (UTC)

  • You see? This is why I support anonymous editing (within limits, that is.) 8) —Silly Dan (talk) 03:33, 29 September 2006 (UTC)

scroll box

  • Hello, you voted no for using scroll boxes on the grounds that "a sizeable majority has problems with them". although only one person ever had any trouble, and that fact is ambiguous, his "problem" has been fixed so you may want to revise your vote. Ugluk: Destroyer of Redlinks 21:53, 28 September 2006 (UTC)
    • I'm still worried that another problem will pop up, so I won't change my vote. However, as I'm the lone dissenter, it looks like we'll continue using them, and I can't really complain (they've always worked for me, anyway.) —Silly Dan (talk) 03:32, 29 September 2006 (UTC)

Second Account

I know it is discouraged but I love a character so much, I want a second user in his honor. I will edit actively with both and I will announce openly that CountDooku13 and the other username are one in the same. If you could give me permission, I would be very happy. Thanks.--CountDooku13(Hyper-Communications Cartel)20px 01:48, 29 September 2006 (UTC)

  • Responding on your talk page. —Silly Dan (talk) 03:24, 29 September 2006 (UTC)
    • Alright, thanks. I suppose I just got carried away.--CountDooku13(Hyper-Communications Cartel)20px 10:31, 29 September 2006 (UTC)
      • Hey Silly Dan, I did not see it saying anything about having not having two user pages, on the User Page Policy. Could you tell me where it says it, in case I misread or skipped over it? Thanks.--CountDooku13(Hyper-Communications Cartel)20px 09:57, 30 September 2006 (UTC)
        • It's not on Wookieepedia:User page policy, though it probably should be. It's on Wookieepedia:Sock puppetry. —Silly Dan (talk) 12:29, 30 September 2006 (UTC)
          • I see. Well since I can't comprehend how to work a droid(Nor do I wish to) and I am not being impersonated or targeted for vandalism, I guess i am vain(Sniff, Sniff) :( although I was going to make one to honor a character, transfer the workload and so it could act as a fail safe for me to fall back on in case of emergancy. I was going to keep the two users clearly defined, since I am aware of sockpuppetry and did not want to appear as a puppetmaster. It was only going to be a failsafe and perhaps keep me occupied when I was bored and had nothing else to edit. I could do it any way and blow you off since it is not disallowed, but I would not ever want to do that to you or anyone for that matter. Which is why I wanted your approval, you must see my reasoning! I hope you can understand.--CountDooku13(Hyper-Communications Cartel)20px 12:58, 30 September 2006 (UTC)
  • Sorry if I got out of hand. I apologize. I will just put userboxes up fo the character instead. Thanks.--CountDooku13(Hyper-Communications Cartel)20px 14:58, 30 September 2006 (UTC)

Close a Consensus Track

  • Hey Silly Dan, if you're on right now, can we close Forum:Administrator Voting? No action has been taken on it for awhile, there's an overwhelming consensus as detailed on Forum:Consensus Reached. Isn't a month long enough? Atarumaster88 20px (Audience Chamber) 03:44, 29 September 2006 (UTC)
    • As it concerns a major change to the site, I'm going to wait for Riff or WhiteBoy to close it. You can see by how I've voted that I support the changes, though. —Silly Dan (talk) 03:46, 29 September 2006 (UTC)

Time for an alternate identity for me?

Seeing as this anon-turned-vandal is attacking me, would it be okay for me to create another account under which I will not be known as Jack Nebulax? Fleet Admiral J. Nebulax (Imperial Holovision) 20px 20:48, 29 September 2006 (UTC)

  • The only way for an active user to avoid personal attacks from vandals would be to become inactive. Given your level of contributions, they'd just start insulting your new name once it popped up in recent changes. I can't stop you, though, if you think it would help. —Silly Dan (talk) 20:52, 29 September 2006 (UTC)
    • I would be anonymous, though. If asked if I was Jack Nebulax, I would simply lie. Plus, I would still use my Jack Nebulax account. A friend of mine suggested using it to help the situation. Fleet Admiral J. Nebulax (Imperial Holovision) 20px 20:55, 29 September 2006 (UTC)
  • Laugh at the personal attacks, ignor them. Think of it this way, your well known, whish Vandels would paradie me like they do you. Your taking this from a nobody. -- Jabbathehuttgartogg(Rancor pit) GrappasTattoo-CrimsonEmpireII 20:58, 29 September 2006 (UTC)
  • Well talking about it on another Popular Vandel talk page is not boosting my confidence. -- Jabbathehuttgartogg(Rancor pit) GrappasTattoo-CrimsonEmpireII 21:01, 29 September 2006 (UTC)
    • Exactly: you shouldn't worry about this. If it's really causing you distress, though, take some time off: without even editing. Or edit another wiki. (Besides, getting a new account while keeping the old one would still violate Wookieepedia:Sockpuppetry: though I can't really stop you, especially since I wouldn't and couldn't take any action unless one of your names was causing enough disruption for a Wikia staffer to reveal the checkuser info.) —Silly Dan (talk) 21:03, 29 September 2006 (UTC)
      • I think the vandal only attacked you because you were the most stern towards him last night on the Dooku and Anakin talk pages. He would have gone after me too if I had been in your place. - Angel Blue 45120px(Holonet) 21:06, 29 September 2006 (UTC)
        • Silly Dan: I'm not going to do that. I'm just going to try to edit a bit under another user name to avoid personal attacks for a bit. Plus, if the account really is considered sock puppetry, then the account can be blocked and I'll just forget it ever existed. Angel Blue: He hasn't been the first, and most likely won't be the last. Fleet Admiral J. Nebulax (Imperial Holovision) 20px 21:07, 29 September 2006 (UTC)
          • Hey Silly Dan, this is Jack. I've decided not to use this alternate name after all. Please ban the account or do whatever you have to do. SWfan1138 00:45, 1 October 2006 (UTC)

New name

Is it ok if I make an account with a new name, and transfer my user page and subpages to said name? - Angel Blue 45120px(Holonet) 00:40, 1 October 2006 (UTC)

  • Yes: so long as you don't edit with both names. —Silly Dan (talk) 00:42, 1 October 2006 (UTC)
    • Understood. I've now transferred everything, so if you want to delete my old pages to clear space, go ahead. I just wish there were some way to move my watchlist too... - Angel Blue20px(Holonet) 01:27, 1 October 2006 (UTC)

User Images

Are we allowed to use a custom image for an article, if it is approved, and absolutley no other image can be found?--CountDooku13(Hyper-Communications Cartel)20px 10:21, 1 October 2006 (UTC)

  • No. --Imp 10:21, 1 October 2006 (UTC)
    • What if an article needs an image, but no image exists, you can't upload one yourself?--CountDooku13(Hyper-Communications Cartel)20px 10:23, 1 October 2006 (UTC)
      • If it's an official image from an official source, yes. --Imp 10:25, 1 October 2006 (UTC)
        • Alright, I am working on the Droid Revolution and creating all these new links for it, so that it is a great event article, but I can find no image, so... can I not mix a few images together to make it look like a real, solid image, and then give the article a good image of its own?(I have an idea of the answer I'm going to get. --CountDooku13(Hyper-Communications Cartel)20px 10:29, 1 October 2006 (UTC)
          • Depends what you mean with mixing them together. File:4Senators-1.jpg|This would be the only acceptable mixing. --Imp 10:32, 1 October 2006 (UTC)
            • I was thinking something like File:ZuckussNewCloneWar.jpg|this, but with droids.--CountDooku13(Hyper-Communications Cartel)20px 10:35, 1 October 2006 (UTC)
              • Nope, that would be fan art. --Imp 10:37, 1 October 2006 (UTC)
                • Oh, sorry... do you know of an image with droids on an assmebly line, or lined up like an army. --CountDooku13(Hyper-Communications Cartel)20px 10:39, 1 October 2006 (UTC)
                  • If you don't can I use an image that is not explicitly related to the article, but could be? For example: Droids attacking biologicals.--CountDooku13(Hyper-Communications Cartel)20px 10:39, 1 October 2006 (UTC)
                    • It would have to be a picture from the correct time period: my first response assumed you were talking about the Great Droid Revolution where no pictures exist, not IG-88's revolt. The picture you have now is OK. —Silly Dan (talk) 12:52, 1 October 2006 (UTC)
  • Thanks. Do you like what I have done with the Droid Revolution. I gave it a major face lift, and filled in the links for the battles, put in a table, and images. I've been up all morning doing the work, but I am pleased with the results. I have two more links to fill though.--CountDooku13(Hyper-Communications Cartel)20px 12:55, 1 October 2006 (UTC)

Copyright Violation

  • So what's with the directions on the Copyright template? Should that be changed if we can just rewrite the article? Cull Tremayne 06:21, 6 October 2006 (UTC)

Do you have the New essential guide to characters? If you do can you scan the picture of Zuckuss from it? I fail to have it and it would greatly please his article. -- Jabbathehuttgartogg(Rancor pit) GrappasTattoo-CrimsonEmpireII 00:31, 9 October 2006 (UTC)

  • I have neither that book nor a scanner. Sorry. —Silly Dan (talk) 00:32, 9 October 2006 (UTC)

I never knew that you did't have a scanner. That's kind of ironic, anyway, thanks though. -- Jabbathehuttgartogg(Rancor pit) GrappasTattoo-CrimsonEmpireII 00:34, 9 October 2006 (UTC)

Ugluk.

Silly Dan, Ugluk said he plans to leave, which is why he put that userbox back on his talk page. In the end, it's all my fault, I suppose. Grand Admiral J. Nebulax (Imperial Holovision) 20px 23:28, 9 October 2006 (UTC)

  • I didn't know you were fighting on IRC at the time. I suspect he's likely to come back eventually (possibly under a different name which wouldn't be blocked, of course, unless he uses two usernames at a time and we can prove they're the same person.) When and if he does, or if anyone else starts behaving the same way, try not to get into fights with them. Remain calm, don't start edit wars, and don't respond to trolls unless absolutely necessary. —Silly Dan (talk) 23:47, 9 October 2006 (UTC)
    • I don't know what's happened between Jack and Ugluk, but Jack's always been a friend and a stand-up guy to me, even when we weren't on the same side of things. By the same token, Ugluk's relatively new to my experience, but he too has treated me kindly. I think they're both good people, and as I told Ugluk, they're by no means destined to fight each other. Can't we step back from this? Erik Pflueger 20px 00:26, 10 October 2006 (UTC)
      • Ugluk, for some reason, had a grudge against me. Also, I didn't start any of these "wars". He just claims I did. But I am staying out of it. I'm stressed out enough as it is. Grand Admiral J. Nebulax (Imperial Holovision) 20px 00:32, 10 October 2006 (UTC)

I wasn't experimenting

I wasn't trying to see if I could make a change that worked, so don't patronize me. Someone had put a large picture of someone flipping the bird on the page, and the only way to get rid of it was to get rid of the main picture.--69.114.46.189 17:44, 12 October 2006 (UTC)

  • Sorry: it's a standard template message, and not meant to be patronizing. (Since IP addresses can change frequently, it's not always easy to tell if anonymous users are very new users still at the "test edit" stage, or experienced users who simply haven't registered.) The vandalism you wanted to remove wasn't actually on the Outrider page: it was on Template:Quote. I think the change to the quote template went through at the same time your change did, which is why it got rid of the problem. —Silly Dan (talk) 17:56, 12 October 2006 (UTC)

Galactic Basic

  • I, for one, an sickened by this wiki's bias toward Galactic Basic. The Calamari had been calling their planet Dac for thousands of years before some humans showed up and christened it "Mon Calamari". The best real-world example would be Columbus. The native peoples of the Americas had been distinct tribes, each with their own name. Then, Columbus showed up, took all their stuff, and gave them the generalized, and now considered derogatory, name "Indians". Moving "Ghorfa" to "Tusken Raiders" is another example of this. I am sorry, but I really must object. Rodtheanimegod4ever 04:45, 14 October 2006 (UTC)
    • The analogy isn't quite exact in either case: the Mon Calamari seem to use the word "Mon Calamari" for their planet, at least when speaking Basic, and the term Ghorfa is only used for a probable precursor culture to the Sand People, so that might be better off pointing at a separate article. Besides, this is closer to the situation in English encyclopedias where "Germany" and "German language" are used rather than "Deutschland" and "Deutsche Sprache": we're writing an English language fansite approximating a Basic-language encyclopedia, so it makes sense to use the standard Basic/English words for things whenever possible. We see no instances in canon of Mon Cals or Quarren seriously objecting to their homeworld being called Mon Calamari, and the term Dac is only used as a main name in an old Bantha Tracks article, and as an alternate name in Coruscant and the Core Worlds and one visual dictionary, so Dac is clearly not "the most commonly known (Basic-language) name in universe". (See Talk:Mandalorian for another example, but please don't go and move that article too.) —Silly Dan (talk) 11:41, 14 October 2006 (UTC)
    • Whoops, sorry, I was under the impression that they ALWAYS called the planet Dac. My mistake Rodtheanimegod4ever 14:47, 15 October 2006 (UTC)

Coruscant Nights

Coruscant Nights: Chiaroscuro has become Coruscant Nights: Sins Of the Father? I can't find any other notice of this but the Chiaroscuro page still exists but all [links to it] are now Sins of the Father. 82.39.244.58 16:36, 1 November 2006 (UTC)

    • I feel sure the "Sins of the Father" bit is bogus; it was all added by one anonymous user (and that was their only contribution), and I've heard nothing about it anywhere else. I'm gonna change all the links back. -- Ozzel 00:35, 4 November 2006 (UTC)

    • Generally speaking, editors remove all content from the article before making it into a redirect: but that's not your problem. I suspect it's one of two things: you're either having trouble with your browser's cache, so it's still showing the pre-edit version (try reloading the page), or you didn't notice the change because Kwenn edited your redirect back to a proper article. (There are two types of fighter tank listed there, so a simple redirect may not be what you want.) —Silly Dan (talk) 15:53, 4 November 2006 (UTC)

Greastan's message

You're a good guy, Silly Dan. You can take the peace when it's offered, and I really respect that. I learned my first big lesson about canon/fanon arguments on the site in the past few days. Here on out I'll try to keep my head down and turn out some good work for you guys. Thanks.Graestan 05:41, 11 November 2006 (UTC)

    • Do you know much about creating userboxes? There's one I have seen on Wikipedia, and I am not sure how to either import it or recreate it on this site. [2] Could you give me pointers, or recommend someone to me who can? Unsigned comment by Graestan (talk • contribs)
      • You can use the {{userbox}} template for that: {{userbox|#fccd88|#feb|[[:File:NR_Seal.svg|40px]]|This user is a [[Wikipedia:Buddhist|Buddhist]].}} will create:
40px This user is a Buddhist.
      • You'll want to upload the Dharma wheel image, of course, unless you want to claim you're a Buddhist New Republic supporter with one userbox. 8) Note that Wookieepedia:Userbox proposal's policies forbid creation of general-purpose religious and political templates just in case it leads to divisiveness and flamewars, but a custom userbox for yourself is perfectly and absolutely OK.Silly Dan (talk) 16:24, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
        • Devisiveness because a user is Buddhist!!! You've got me rolling on the floor, and I now understand your name! Flarewars I understand, however. You should see some of these people's boxes! What am I saying? I'm sure you have. -- Graestan 16:57, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
          • I try not to engage in religious stereotyping...but I suspect Buddhist users would generally not be the ones causing trouble. 8) (Neither would 99%+ of the members of other religious groups: we're just trying to avoid the tiny minority who would want to cause trouble.) —Silly Dan (talk) 16:59, 11 November 2006 (UTC)

RFB

Hey, now that we (soon enough) have the RFB page up and working… would you be opposed to being nominated? We could use one or two new bureaucrats, and you are perhaps the best candidate for the job. --Imp 21:16, 11 November 2006 (UTC)

  • I know I've previously claimed that I might be leaving for weeks on end, and then didn't: but it might still happen. If I were one of only three bureaucrats, it'd be harder to walk away from the wiki for a long term than it is as one of several admins. Thanks for asking, but I'm afraid I'll have to decline. —Silly Dan (talk) 21:36, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
