Confrontation on Ambria

Hey Jon,

I've noticed that you've done a lot of work on this article. By any chance, are you interested in nominating it for a Good Article? If so, I can help you along the way. Let me know what you think.Tommy 17px (Nine two eight one) 20:18, 12 February 2009 (UTC)

  • Sure thing. I imagine you enjoy editing on the site; one of the things that helped me when I was new was the nomination of my first good article. While it can seem daunting at first, don’t fret or crack under the proverbial pressure. I had what I thought was a fine grasp on the processes of Wookieepedia—I was sadly mistaken. Your initial forage onto the GAN will change the way you edit articles with regards to Wookieepedia forever, which is a good thing. You’ll learn through experience what article requirements are, and you’ll carry that knowledge with you each time you make edits. As far as Confrontation on Ambria goes, you’ll need a few more things before it’s GAN worthy, the first of them being a behind the scenes section. Articles like this one can provide a good example for you on how to create a BtS, this one especially because it is from the same book as the Confrontation. Make sure that when you provide links to other articles within Wookieepedia, the subject is linked once upon its first mention in the intro, and once upon its first mention in the article body. Remember to refer to individuals with first and last names by their last name after the initial point of their introduction. I personally do not include contractions in my articles, but there is no policy against this, so you can go either way. Remember that appearances aren’t sources in the sense that Wookieepedia uses them; sources include reference book material, blogs, SW databank entries, etc. Appearances include comics, television media, novels, video games, etc. Finish working the article out, and I’ll give it a good once-over, and then you should be ready to nominate it for GAN. In the meantime, you should check out the GAN page, starting from the top, and read the instructions/preliminary guidelines for nominations. Then browse the page to get a feel for the kinds of things objectors object to. Any questions, don’t hesitate to ask, and I’ll do my best to help.Tommy 17px (Nine two eight one) 21:06, 12 February 2009 (UTC)
    • Hey, Jon. I'll give it a good one-two shortly, and then you should be ready for the GAN. Let me know if you have any questions.Tommy 17px (Nine two eight one) 21:46, 14 February 2009 (UTC)
    • Hey, Jon. Lookin good, though you may want to expand the intro some. Just mention when and where, and give a brief overview of the beginning, middle & end of it. Keep it brief in the intro without leaving out things you mention later in the body. If you need any help, lemme know.Tommy 17px (Nine two eight one) 23:33, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

Zahn

Allright! Another Timothy Zahn fan! I think he is the best Star Wars author out there. The Thrawn Trilogy is what got me interested in exploring the EU. (btw, I'm gonna use ur Timothy Zahn userbox if thats allright) Togrutalover 01:35, 25 February 2009 (UTC)

RE: Confrontation on Ambria

Hey, Jon. You've done good work with the article so far :) (far better than my first Good Article :P). In the intros you need to cover the important points but leave the detail in the article body. With the Duel on Tython you need to be brief with the context as it is not about the article itself. If you want I could have a go at cutting down the intro just to give you an idea? And then you can correct any mistakes I make :P. Grunny (Talk) 15:28, 26 February 2009 (UTC)

  • Okay, I've done it; although I hardly did anything other than add a little to your previous intro, and cut a little as well :-). Take a look over it, I'm quite tired and may have made some errors but hopefully it will give you an idea. It is good to be very brief in context in the intro and more detailed in the article body. On the conjectural title, since it is never called that in-universe you shouldn't use it at the start of the intro, similar to this current GAN, but I will leave that change to you. Also, in the first sentence of the intro, was it a duel between Darovit and Tho'natu, or Darovit and the fourteen Jedi? If it is the latter it could take some rewording. Good work on the article so far, Jon. I'll re-review after you address all my other objections, until then feel free to ask me for more help :-). Grunny (Talk) 16:28, 26 February 2009 (UTC)
    • Hey Jon, sorry to leave you hanging on the nom. I have one more objection which I just added. Great work for a first nom :-). Grunny (Talk) 02:28, 9 March 2009 (UTC)

Thanks so much, Jon :-). If it hadn't been for the help and encouragement of other users I would never have gotten through my first nom so I'm always happy to help :-). Grunny (Talk) 04:08, 22 March 2009 (UTC)

April Fool's

I noticed that you often refer to the splinter wiki by Atarumaster88. Is there a known URL for the site or has it not been created yet. I still think this new "no EU" policy is a load of nonsense, but if it turns out to be true, I'd like to be prepared. Wolf 22:06, 1 April 2009 (UTC)

  • I think this is probably just a big elaborate April Fools joke planned out by the admins in secret on IRC:
  1. In the Senate Hall forum, AdmirableAckbar said Wikia have introduced more stringent criteria for the creation of new wikis. If you want to create any other Star Wars wikis, it'll have to be unanimously approved by the Wookieepedia administration, and it takes months for the new servers to arrive in Wikia HQ for any new wikis. I also hear that most EU material will be deleted in the next few days, so you might want to save that to your hard drive. They havn't and he is clearly just having a laugh
  2. Toprawa is putting a lot of effort into getting Executor to FA, which includes a lot of EU info. If EU stuff was going to be deleted, then surely he would at least seem a bit irritated by this, as his work would have been for nothing, rather than fully supporting it
  3. Wookieepedia always does something for April Fools. Why would they not this year?
  4. Just wait until tomorrow --Jinzler 23:14, 1 April 2009 (UTC)
    • It seemed like an well planed joke, but I wanted to be prepared in case it wasn't. Thank you for the information, it is much appreciated. Wolf 23:21, 1 April 2009 (UTC)
      • Just take a look at Wookieepedia:April Fools' Day 2007 and Wookieepedia:April Fools' Day 2008. site-wide april fools pranks are a tradition around here. 72.79.214.183 23:24, 1 April 2009 (UTC)

In Agreement

  • I think you're one of the rare people I can agree with on Star Wars. I don't really disagree with most things in the Expanded Universe, but more so take it as it is. Things happen in this world, as well as ours, and there's little we can do to change it. Complaining over deaths, leadership, or events does nothing. So, I view the legacy of Star Wars as a captivating and engaging story no matter what happens. I especially agree with you over the deaths in the New Jedi Order. In the ABY Expanded Universe hardly anybody dies, and there's little tragedy for the good guys (compared to the Clone Wars Era). --korydvandyke 23:55, 1 April 2009 (UTC)

EU splinter wiki

  • Yes, about that. I'm afraid you've been (at least temporarily) snookered into believing an elaborate hoax concocted especially for the occasion. This is the part where I say "Happy April Fools from your friendly, caring Wookieepedia administration." :-P :-D Atarumaster88 20px (Talk page) 03:13, 2 April 2009 (UTC)

Recruitment

Hey, Jon :-). I see you've been creating and updating a lot of the Fate of the Jedi: Outcast articles, and have put Koro Ziil up for GAN, and was wondering if you'd be interested in joining our little Project? It would be a great help to have people such as yourself updating the FotJ articles as the books come out, so if you're interested let me know :D. Grunny (Talk) 01:23, 13 April 2009 (UTC)

  • Great! All you have to do is sign your name in the participants section, also we have lists which need updating, so as you create articles could you add them to their respective list so we know what needs doing :-). Look forward to working with you :-). Grunny (Talk) 01:45, 13 April 2009 (UTC)

Hunt for Valin Horn

I thought I would bring to your attention that I've deleted the Hunt for Valin Horn article removed redlinks to it on the site because it's really not in the scope of how we create articles. Event articles are typically reserved for concrete happenings, such as a battle or a designed mission. We wouldn't create an article for Darth Vader's hunt for Luke Skywalker after the Battle of Yavin or the Hunt for the Kaiburr crystal from Splinter of the Mind's Eye. I would suggest incorporated what information you've compiled from that article into a summary of the novel. Toprawa and Ralltiir 01:03, 15 April 2009 (UTC)

Koro Ziil

Hi Jon; I'm not really sure why Nighthawk did work on your GAN. I don't mean to blame him, but as it's your nom, I thought I'd let you know that I'll hold off from reviewing my objections until it's sorted out, and also give you time to look at it yourself. CC7567 (talk) 00:08, 20 April 2009 (UTC)

  • Nevermind; I spoke too soon. :) I'll get on it, since you just looked at them. CC7567 (talk) 00:09, 20 April 2009 (UTC)
  • hi Jonjedigrandmaster, I'm very sorry for making edits on Koro Ziil, I was unsure as to whether I should be doing it, but I read "As stated above, any objections will be looked upon by the nominator, supporters, and anyone willing to improve the article, and action will be taken to please the objectors." in the rules, and thought that it may be ok to help out. So again, I'm really sorry about the edits, feel free to revert anything I put, and I'll withdraw any comments on the good article nom page. NighthawkLeader 01:44, 20 April 2009 (UTC)
    • Hey, yeah I'm sorry about the confusion too- I probably should have asked you before I comented on there. Noticed you've been doing a lot of great work on articles from Outcast which I recently finished reading and thought I'd just do a couple of minor things to help you out. So if there's anything at all I can do in the future, feel free to let me know. I know my writing skills aren't great, but I'll do what I can :) NighthawkLeader 02:38, 20 April 2009 (UTC)

RE: GAN objections

Heh, I know you addressed them, hence why I struck them. I'll take another look soon. --Darth tom 20px (Imperial Intelligence) 06:04, 25 April 2009 (UTC)

Re:User talk:Graestan

I believe you have to talk to Ataru about it. I got mine a long time ago. Graestan(Talk) 14:53, 26 April 2009 (UTC)

  • Well, AFAIK, the only users with Wookieepedia.com e-mail addresses are actually members of the administration. I could be wrong there, but while I manage some aspects of various mailing lists, I'm actually not the one in charge of the Wookieepedia.com accounts. The user to speak to for that would be WhiteBoy. Again, if I remember correctly, those have traditionally been given to members of the administration, but I suppose there's no harm in asking. Atarumaster88 20px (Talk page) 19:41, 26 April 2009 (UTC)
    • Alternately, you could set up a gmail or something with your Wook username. I was going to do that before Greyman gave me the hookup. Graestan(Talk) 19:43, 26 April 2009 (UTC)

Kyp

Hi Jon,

I noticed you added some info to Kyp Durron's article and that he became angered when Savar insulted two Jedi guarding the entrance. I don't have Fate of the Jedi: Outcast with me but don't you mean Oric Harfard? Apologies if I'm wrong. -- Harrar (Villip) 09:52, 2 May 2009 (UTC)

Re: Burra

My original objections were based on this article, which says that "[Luke] would not act as Grand Master of the Jedi Order and would appoint Jedi Master Kenth Hamner as Grand Master." I assumed that meant Luke left the post (I don't read legacy, so I had no idea what was really the case). If Hamner was only acting GM, then I have no qualms about you changing it back. Re: 43 ABY

  • I'm sorry that it's difficult to read the emotions behind online discussions. In my last entry on the 43 ABY I actually intended to give off a "point well made, I get what you're saying, I agree" vibe. Pointing to another article that supports keeping the articles in the battle section. Also I was seriously stating that you would know about the subject more than I do, because of your impressive buildup of BOTH articles to GA and FA status. Thank you for the debate, it's what keeps the quality good. In short i've always been chill. Steves490 03:13, 18 June 2009 (UTC)

Hey Jonjedigrandmaster. As project head for WP:TCW, I'm trying to get a better idea of who's still interested in participating in our project. If you're still interested in participating, please leave a note on my talk page or contact me in IRC. If you do not respond within a week, I will assume that you are no longer interested in participating. That doesn't mean that your name will be removed from the "Participants" list, but it means that any of your current projects will be removed from the project page so that others have a chance to work on them. Likewise, if you currently have any projects under your belt, I highly encourage you to review them, and if you don't plan on working on them within the next two or three weeks, I recommend reconsidering them. Thallis Khai

You are right sorry about that but he would have been apart of the Rise of the Empire era.--Bull36 18:02, 30 July 2009 (UTC)

I was thinking that Thallis Khai son Gavar Khai had a daughter in 27.5 aby, so Gavar Khai had to be at least 13 years old, and when Thallis Khai had Gavar Khai he had to be at least 13 years old and thats pretty young to be having a kid so he was most likely older which would put him in the Rise of the Empire era,but i understand the reason for not adding that to the article--Bull36 18:11, 30 July 2009 (UTC)

Hello Jon. You reviewed my first GAN Zak. May I please make a few changes to the following articles:

The Skirimish at SInkhole Station...

After Ben threw the azetal gas canister into the room with the Sith, Luke slid back into the room and shot the three Sith. It's in Abyss. Why are you undoing my edits?--DarthKenny 21:23, October 23, 2009 (UTC)

I'm about to make a edit to the Skirmish at SInkhole Station article, which you said earlier I could do. I hope you won't mind.--DarthKenny 01:26, October 28, 2009 (UTC)

Ben asked Luke if he got all of the Sith, and Luke said, "Just three". That leads me to think that he was the one who shot the three Sith. Also, Luke said "They know what's going to happen when the azetal gas gets dense enough", meaning that it didn't detonate yet. Also, Abyss didn't say that the gas blew.--DarthKenny 01:31, October 28, 2009 (UTC)

Actually, it seems to me that Abyss did indeed state that Luke shot the Sith. Ben said: "That was some shooting! Did you get them all?" Luke shook his head and said "Just three. The others were Force-leaping through that bolt-hole I cut." However, I may have misinterpreted it.--DarthKenny 01:38, October 28, 2009 (UTC)

RE:

i understand, it's just that regardless of vaapad or not, palpatine could have been holding back with the lightning. if he was able to give yoda such a difficult time, and Yoda could beat mace windu, then logically (at least in star wars logic) palpatine could have defeated mace. WP:TCW

Hello everyone, this is CC7567 from WookieeProject The Clone Wars. It is currently six months after the project was started, and the number of individual projects is steadily growing. While I am happy that so many of you are writing for the WookieeProject, the majority of articles there have been sitting there for months. Several users even have ten projects or more at the moment, and I am frankly just disappointed at the level of inactivity that is befalling our articles. I understand that many of you have other obligations, and while I respect that, the responsibility falls to you to judge whether or not you're still capable of writing all of these articles, whether in time or in energy. For this reason, I once again urge you to reconsider your current projects. The criteria should be that you have the unrelenting intent to finish all of your projects within the next month. I myself have had to reconsider my own projects on account of real-life time constraints. I do not want to have to set a limit to the number of projects per user, but if it comes down to that, I will, because I do not want to see the project deteriorate and hope that you do not want to either. Thank you. CC7567 (talk) 19:21, October 31, 2009 (UTC)

I could use your help with wookieepedia I see you have alot of experience and you would be a great mentor for me (only if you want of course)

Help!!

Hi Jon, remember me Galstone Jattzan? Well, I need your help, because Topwata and Raltir has blocked me (it just expired) because of continued dissruption. But this is certainly not true because I only talked to two people, and was deffending, user Galen Marik from users Dr.Kermit and Grand Moff Trainer. They where being just as rude and dissruptive as he was (assuming he was, which is not true). I need your help, because he has gone against the code of admins. I have looked into how he was supposed to handle the situation. But he did not. I think (I have considered this very carefully) he should be stripped of his rank and someone else (like you maybe) should be put in his place. I have also notted he handles other situations just as mean as this one. If you would like to see the situation for yourself. Then go to all these users talk pages and the lightsaber disscution. I have also consulted with other Wookieepedians like you and most agree with me. But no matter what, you will always be my friend and you would make a great admin.

May the force be with you.

Darth Bane: Dynasty of Evil - Appearances

Hello Jonjedigrandmaster! I noticed lots of appearances are missing in this book article, so I decided to add them as I'm progressing thru. Then I noticed you changed some of my edits for unknown reasons. F.e. Ulabore was lieutenant - he should have a title in my opinion in front of his name as others like ensign, general, grand moff, warlord (you got the idea); slavers and slaves DOES appear - Lucia seeing them on Paradise sp. station together with mercenaries, bounty hunters, pirates and other "scum" (that's how she call them). Another thing: why did you put The Force and all subsections on first place in Miscellanea section? I thought policy here is alphabetized categories in every appearance category and "T" is almost on the end of alphabet. And another thing I don't think hyperspace lanes qualify as locations cause they run thru all the galaxy, lots of sectors, systems etc.(how can you place them when they run thru Outer Rim, Inner Rim, Colonies, Mid Rim in the same time?), that's why I put them in Miscellanea sect.; Paradise sp. station wasn't part of Corellian Trade Spine, but "located on small hyperspace route branching from CTS" and also I think it should be in cat. vehicles and vessels although it's stationary sp. station (btw skyhooks are also among vehicles and vessels). For better cooperation between us and to avoid further editing conflicts, can you tell me reasons for your changes like that? So we can avoid those in future. Thank you.--Jedi Marty 13:24, December 27, 2009 (UTC)

  • Thank you for so fast reply, Jon. :) ok, here we go: 1) Lieutenant is a rank not a title and I think it's good for sourcing when making own characters article and also for references - easier to find than going and search thru whole novel, comic, story etc. And also lieutenant was rank in Old Republic, Gloom Walkers, Galactic Empire, Rebel Alliance, New Republic so it's not some priviledge to certain group only. 2) no comment :) 3) I prefer alphabet start with T (as I did in apearances of other novels I was reading), although maybe since The Force has a quite a bit appearances it would be good to make a subcategory in Miscellanea sect. 4) I still think Paradise should be among vehicles and vessels, like skyhooks - they don't appear only on Coruscant, but I understand your point of view, so I'll leave it among Locations. 5)CTS makes sense to put among technology when you put it that way. Btw. I'm also going to put Bane and Zannah aliases among other characters. Ok, I'm going to make changes we both agreed :). Thank you for your time. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.--Jedi Marty 21:47, December 27, 2009 (UTC)
    • Thanks again for very fast reply and also thank you for letting me know about new policies I wasn't aware of (I'll heed your advise from now on). I think it's very probable "Zun Haako" was just Set Harth's alias and not completly different person given the circumstances, so I'm removing that name from Other characters appearances. Jon, one more thing: I noticed you disagree with me about Boar-wolf actualy fighting in Paradise arena when Huntress met with Lucia. Do you think there is some other creature that "One appeared to be Endorian boarwolf" as stated in novel? I couldn't find any other in similar appearance, so I think it should be placed under appearance of Boar-wolf and not only Mentioned only. Otherwise we would have to create a new article named somehow like unidentified endorian boarwolf like creature, which seems unnecessary from my point of view. What do you think about that matter?--Jedi Marty 02:44, December 28, 2009 (UTC)

Ulabore

  • How can the Battle have taken place in 1002 BBY when the parts with Dessel/Bane all take place in 1000 BBY in this novel?--Darth Revanon 01:49, December 31, 2009 (UTC)
  • No. Part One of Darh Bane: Path of Destruction takes place in 1000 BBY. There are some flashbacks in the novel, but it didn't take two years for Des to be trained. He was arrested, and at the end of Part One was when he chose his name: Bane. Your probably confused cause of this line thats in Darth Bane's article- "After killing a Galactic Republic ensign in a fight in 1003 BBY, he was in danger of being arrested by the Republic." The only part that takes place in 1003 BBY is the Prologue, and the characters that are in there are- Kaan, Qordis, and Kopecz. Check the book if you don't believe me.--Darth Revanon 02:03, December 31, 2009 (UTC)
  • Really, cause I don't think its right. I really don't recall it taking Bane two years to train to become a Sith Lord. Maybe on one of the authors blogs for Path of Destrucion on Starwars.com, he tells us the timeline.--Darth Revanon 02:54, December 31, 2009 (UTC)
  • Never mind. His first blog on the Starwars forums was for Dynasty of Evil, which obviously wont say anything about the timeline for Path of Destruction, and I also checked his actual website, and his earliest blog there is December 27th, 2006, which is three months after the release of Path of Destruction, and he doesn't talk about it there at all :(. But, ob his novels page, it says this about it- Set 1000 years before the movie, the novel looks at Darth Bane, a pivotal figure in the history of the Star Wars universe. It was Bane who first proposed the Rule of Two – one master and one apprentice – followed by the Sith during the time of the movies. So, to me, the prologue seems to take place in 1003 BBY since everything else in the book is all about Bane.--Darth Revanon 03:04, December 31, 2009 (UTC)
  • Hmmm, what about our Bane expert? Im gonna go look on ther Star Wars Message Boards and see if Sue Rostoni posted the dates or confirmed that 1003 BBY-1000 BBY is correct.--Darth Revanon 03:29, December 31, 2009 (UTC)
  • Oh okay. To think all this time I thought that Parts One, Two, and Three all took place in 1000 BBY. But I probably wasn't the only one :)--Darth Revanon 03:52, December 31, 2009 (UTC)
  • Happy New Year to you too!!--Darth Revanon 04:04, December 31, 2009 (UTC)
