Between 3 ABY and 4 ABY, the Alliance to Restore the Republic deployed the pathfinders on a mission to rescue Alliance leader, Mon Mothma after she was kidnapped by Scarabi mercenaries. The mercenaries held her ransom, forcing the rebels to pay 200 million credits for Mothma's release before they would seek interest from third parties.

Unable to pay the price, a solution came from Lando Calrissian, who was on trial for suspected treason. Calrissian knew the Scarabi leader, Hachi from previous jobs and provided the Rebel Alliance with locations of various safehouses that could potentially hold Mothma. With the help of Chewbacca, Calrissian was able to join the rebels on the rescue.

The first safehouse was booby trapped with droidekas and yielded no results for the Rebellion. After taking out the droideka, the pathfinders moved on to the second and third, both of which did not have Mothma. The rebels were able to locate Mothma at Safe House Four and prepared to move in.

Inside the safehouse, Mothma was attempting to convince Hachi on the principals of the Rebel Alliance and freedom. Hachi started to believe to was a mistake to hold her captive, but she was killed by a fellow mercenary before she could act on it. Calrissian and Chewbacca then reached Mothma and freed her from her captures.

Prelude

Between 3 ABY and 4 ABY,^[3] Chancellor of the Alliance to Restore the Republic, Mon Mothma went on a funding mission for the Alliance on the planet Uveron. During the mission, she also served as a magistrate for the Trial of Lando Calrissian, who was accused of committing treason against the Rebel Alliance. Meanwhile, the mercenary group Scarabi, led by Hachi, planned to kidnap Mothma and hold her for ransom, in hopes of getting a large paycheck for her release.^[1]

During Calrissian's trial, Mothma was kidnapped by the Scarabi. Her kidnapping was witnessed via hologram by many members of Alliance High Command,^[1] who immediately dispatched Sergeant Kes Dameron and the pathfinders to Uveron City to investigate. There, they discovered a message from the mercenaries that threatened the Rebel Alliance to pay the 200 million credit ransom or else the Scarabi would consider third party offers, including the Galactic Empire.^[4]

Calrissian, who also witnessed the kidnapping, had a past with the Scarabi, taking part in jobs with Hachi. He then met with Chewbacca, asking him to convince Alliance High Command of intelligence he knew of safehouses owned by the Scarabi. The Wookiee brought the evidence to the rebel leaders, who reluctantly agreed to let Calrissian join the rescue.^[2]

The rescue

The rebels arrived at the first safehouse, which was a cave at an unknown location. While investigating the cave, Calrissian stepped on a trap that triggered a droideka to attack them. Calrissian was able to distract the droideka long enough for a Nautolan pathfinder to destroy it with a grenade. A further scan of the safehouse confirmed Mothma was not present. A search of the second and third safehouse yielded similar results.^[2]

The discovered Mothma at Safe House Four via heat signatures of her and Hachi. In the safehouse, Mothma delivered her case to Hachi of what the Rebel Alliance was fighting for and the freedom the Empire had taken from the galaxy. Hachi, who was skeptical of Mothma and rebels at first, began to sympathize with her. She began to believe that it was a mistake to hold Mothma for ransom, but before she could free her, Hachi was killed by another mercenary, who believed there was no mistake in kidnapping Mothma.^[2]

All of the sudden, the rebels attacked the safehouse and quickly overran the Scarabi forces. The mercenary was forced to leave Mothma, leaving her unguarded for Chewbacca and Calrissian to save her. Mothma was surprised to see Calrissian, who told that while he might not win the trial, he wanted to be a rebel and the Alliance needed her to win the war. Mothma and the rebels then returned to the flagship of the Alliance Fleet, the Home One to continue the trial.^[2]

Aftermath

Calrissian's trial continued after the rescue, but he was ultimately found guilty of treason against the Rebel Alliance and fined 250 million credits which could be reduced following the end of the Galactic Civil War and Lando's actions as a rebel.^[5]

Behind the scenes

The mission to rescue Mon Mothma first appeared in the fourty-sixth issue of the 2020 Star Wars comic series. The issue was written by Charles Soule, illustrated by Madibek Musabekov,^[2] and published by Marvel Comics on May 22, 2024.^[6]
