- "Oh, that's great. You get lost in the middle of a mission... and decide to start your own battle again."
- ―Kanan Jarrus to Garazeb Orrelios
In 5 BBY, a rendezvous between Garazeb Orrelios and Kanan Jarrus of the Spectres rebel cell went awry, briefly derailing their mission when Orrelios engaged in a street fight with stormtroopers of the Galactic Empire and Imperial Starfighter Pilot Baron Valen Rudor.
Prelude
By 5 BBY, during the early rebellion against the Galactic Empire, a rebel cell known as the Spectres carried out operations against the Imperial occupation on the Outer Rim planet Lothal.[5] One of the rebels, Garazeb Orrelios, was the muscle of the cell.[6] A number of the operations that the crew undertook, often aboard their VCX-100 light freighter known as the Ghost, were located in and around Capital City.[5]

Failed rendezvous
- "So are you going to make the rendezvous or not?"
"It's possible I may be a little late."
"You’re already late." - ―Kanan Jarrus and Garazeb Orrelios
While on a mission on Lothal, Orrelios and Spectre leader Kanan Jarrus planned to meet in an alley near a marketplace in Capital City. Orrelios arrived at what he[7] believed was the rendezvous point only to be contacted by Jarrus, who asked where the Lasat warrior was. Orrelios told Jarrus he was at the rendezvous point, to which Jarrus said that was not possible as Jarrus, in fact, was at the rendezvous point. As Orrelios realized he was in the wrong alley, he witnessed two Imperial stormtroopers harassing an[2] Ugnaught street merchant and his[3] astromech droid,[2] R1-D1.[8]
The stormtroopers kicked R1 over and, hoping to avoid further Imperial entanglement, the Ugnaught attempted to offer payment to the stormtroopers. Perceiving it as a bribe, the stormtroopers declared that the salesman was under arrest—but, before they could make the arrest, Orrelios grabbed them from behind and slammed them into one another, knocking them unconscious. Jarrus got back in touch with[2] his[7] fellow rebel and asked if Orrelios would be able to make the rendezvous, just as Orrelios was spotted by two other stormtroopers. Preparing for action, Orrelios told Jarrus he might be a little late—later than he already was, as Jarrus reminded him.[2]

Aftermath
- "We are creating new, stronger defences to protect us from the rebel threat. Anyone who is found helping these rebels will be arrested and punished."
- ―An Imperial official, speaking to the Lothal Bulletin about recent attacks that included the TIE fighter's destruction
Following the TIE fighter's destruction, the media outlet Lothal Bulletin wrote about the recent string of rebel activity, noting that TIE fighters were destroyed in the third rebel attack in the previous two weeks. One Imperial official spoke to the Lothal Bulletin to say that stricter defense measures were being implemented, and that anyone found aiding the rebels would be arrested and punished by the Empire. The news coverage included an image of the TIE fighter exploding in the Capital City streets.[9]
Encounters with Baron Rudor became a recurring theme as the Spectres picked up their anti-Imperial activities. Shortly after his encounter with Orrelios, Rudor flew a TIE fighter in pursuit of the Ghost, only to be shot down[10] outside of Capital City.[11] Some time later, Orrelios had another run-in with the Imperial pilot, this time stealing the baron's TIE fighter and using it attack three Imperial Troop Transports carrying civilian prisoners of the Empire.[12] Not long after, during the 4 BBY[5] festivities to commemorate Empire Day, the anniversary of the founding of the Galactic Empire, the Spectres destroyed a prototype TIE Advanced v1 starfighter that Rudor was meant to demonstrate during the Empire Day celebrations.[13]
Behind the scenes
The attempted rendezvous in Capital City was part of the central plot of the Star Wars Rebels animated short "Entanglement," which premiered on August 25, 2014.[14] Concept art and early animation of the event was first revealed in "Meet Zeb, the Muscle," a video introducing the character of Garazeb Orrelios that released on February 18, 2014.[6]
