"Now look what you've made me do. It's ruined. [Klatooinian exclaims] I mean, it looks perfect to me, sir."
―The droid to a customer[2]

A tattoo artist droid operated on Borgo Prime around 9 ABY. They were present when SM-33, Wim, Neel, Fern, and KB attempted to escape Vane as he and other pirates chased them through the spaceport.

Biography

The droid was a 8D-series smelter droid[1] model who served as a tattoo artist aboard the shadowport Port Borgo during the New Republic Era. While in the middle of one session[2] around 9 ABY,[3] as they were tattooing the Desilijic insignia on the upper arm of a Klatooinian,[2] the Skeleton Crew[4] younglingsWim, Neel, Fern, and KB—barged into the kiosk along with the droid SM-33, running away from a hostile pirate crew[2] and other thugs.[5] SM-33 crashed into the tattoo artist, causing them to mess up their work. Originally complaining about having his work ruined, the droid took on a softer tone when the client started to make a fuss and said the tattoo ultimately looked perfect to them.[2]

Personality and traits

Being a droid and therefore lacking skin, the droid could not tattoo itself in the traditional sense. Their plating was instead covered in a variety of soldered "tattoos."[1]

Behind the scenes

The tattoo artist droid debuted in "Way, Way Out Past the Barrier," the second episode of the Star Wars: Skeleton Crew live-action television series,[2] which aired on December 2, 2024.[6]

  3. Star Wars: Timelines dates the events of "Chapter 1: The Mandalorian" of The Mandalorian Season One to 9 ABY. In addition, SWInsider "A Certain Point of View" — Star Wars Insider 228 also dates "Part Seven: Dreams and Madness" to nine years after the events of Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope, which corresponds to 9 ABY per Timelines. "Part Seven: Dreams and Madness" takes place after the conflict on Mandalore, which is the main event depicted in "Chapter 23: The Spies" and "Chapter 24: The Return," the final two episodes of The Mandalorian Season Three. Therefore, Seasons One through Three of Star Wars: The Mandalorian must all be set in 9 ABY as well. StarWars.com SWCA 2022: 20 Highlights from Lucasfilm's Studio Showcase on StarWars.com (backup link) states that Star Wars: Skeleton Crew takes place in the same timeframe as Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Star Wars: Ahsoka—the latter of which can also be dated to 9 ABY following the reasoning here. As such, Skeleton Crew must take place around 9 ABY as well.
