The 8D-series smelter droid was a model of smelter droid manufactured by Roche Hive Mechanical Apparatus Design and Construction Activity for Those Who Need the Hive's Machines.[1] The series possessed a humanoid shape with white plating and yellow sensors. Like all smelter droids, the 8D-series was designed with extreme durability for working within the harsh confines of ore-extraction facilities.[4] The 8D-series saw widespread use throughout the galaxy by many organizations and governments during the Clone Wars and Galactic Civil War.
