- "Okay, here we go. Daily special."
- ―A fry cook before cracking open a bug
A black, eight-limbed[2] bug species[1] was a delicacy found on the pirate asteroid Borgo Prime. In the New Republic Era, members of this lobster-size species were served in a local noodle bar.[2]
Around 9 ABY,[3] several bugs were roasted over a grill during a fry cook and Nibsy's shift. The fry cook cracked the bugs open and spilled their guts over a noodle dish, the day's special. The clientele included an Onodone patron, who eagerly feasted on the dish, and the young off-worlders Wim and Neel. Requesting the same food that the Onodone was having, Wim received a bowl of noodles that the cook quickly topped with a bug's guts. Upon seeing this unusual topping on[2] his[4] companion's portion, Neel tried to persuade the cook not to top his noodles, but the cook did not listen to the boy's appeals. Finally, neither of the younglings consumed their portions, as Wim tipped[2] his[5] helping onto the grill. When it flamed up, the boys ran away, chased by the fry cook along with local[2] thugs[1] and pirates.[2]
Behind the scenes
The bug first appeared in "Way, Way Out Past the Barrier," the second episode of the live-action television series Star Wars: Skeleton Crew,[2] which aired on December 2, 2024.[6] The species' classification as an insect and its similarity to lobsters was specified by the Disney+ audio description of the episode, narrated by Jedediah Barton.[1] Before the premiere of the show, a bug could be seen in a trailer released on November 1, 2024.[7]

- ↑ Star Wars: Timelines dates the events of "Chapter 1: The Mandalorian" of The Mandalorian Season One to 9 ABY. In addition,
"A Certain Point of View" — Star Wars Insider 228 also dates "Part Seven: Dreams and Madness" to nine years after the events of Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope, which corresponds to 9 ABY per Timelines. "Part Seven: Dreams and Madness" takes place after the conflict on Mandalore, which is the main event depicted in "Chapter 23: The Spies" and "Chapter 24: The Return," the final two episodes of The Mandalorian Season Three. Therefore, Seasons One through Three of Star Wars: The Mandalorian must all be set in 9 ABY as well.
SWCA 2022: 20 Highlights from Lucasfilm's Studio Showcase on StarWars.com (backup link) states that Star Wars: Skeleton Crew takes place in the same timeframe as Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Star Wars: Ahsoka—the latter of which can also be dated to 9 ABY following the reasoning here. As such, Skeleton Crew must take place around 9 ABY as well.
