"Heh, Heh. The Nameless is gonna mess you up, Jay. Shrii ka rai ka rai!"
―The Nihil to Ty Yorrick, regarding a Nameless[1]

A humanoid individual served within the Nihil marauder organization during the High Republic Era. In 228 BBY, they accompanied the Child of the Storm Jedi hunter Cibaba to the planet Temerancé, which was located inside the area of space dubbed the Occlusion Zone, where they attempted to locate the Force-sensitive child Lene Kostana in a small settlement. After interrogating and killing the parents of Kostana in a failed attempt to discover the girl, the Nihil and Cibaba encountered the Tholothian monster hunter Ty Yorrick after she attacked them head on with her stolen Nihil starship. Leaping out of the starship, an adamant Yorrick gunned down the Nihil, who quickly got up and fired back, chasing the monster hunter until she came across Cibaba's pet Nameless.

With the Nihil singing the nursery rhyme associated with the Nameless, the beast prowled amid the settlement until it found Yorrick and Kostana. As the two attempted to retreat, they were met with Cibaba, who demanded Kostana be given to him. Before the exchange could be made, the pirate pointed out the Nihil starship from earlier was about to fire at their position, which sent the three soaring in the air. Getting back up on their legs, Cibaba instructed the Nihil to prepare his ship, which was denied by the pirate who attempted to inform him about something the Eye of the Nihil, Marchion Ro, stated. Displeased with the Nihil, Cibaba held the Nihil in the air with the Force and choked them while repeating his commands before slamming them into the ground. Cibaba left the planet thereafter and encountered Yorrick and Kostana on the planet Abtin.

Brief interrogation

Nihil: "Where's the child?"
Galdrim: "We've told you. She's not here."
Cibaba: "They lie. To protect their infant. It is… understandable."
Nihil: "Heh. You're in trouble now Altiri. You're in trouble now."

The Nihil interrogates Sula and Galdrim for the location of their daughter.

During the High Republic Era, a humanoid individual served within the Nihil marauder organization.[1] In 228 BBY,[2] they accompanied[1] the former Jedi Master Cibaba,[3] who was transformed into a Jedi hunter by Baron Boolan of the Nihil and made a Child of the Storm,[3] to a settlement on Temerancé,[1] a planet located in the Nihil-controlled space called the Occlusion Zone,[4] to locate the Altiri Force-sensitive Lene Kostana. During a raid at the settlement, the pirate approached Kostana's parents, Galdrim and Sula, and demanded the location of the child, only for Galdrim to deny the knowledge of her whereabouts. As Cibaba approached the two and confirmed they were lying, the Nihil turned to look at the cloaked figure and grinned, then chuckled and informed the parents they were in trouble. Using the Force to levitate and choke them, Cibaba ordered the parents to confess the location of Kostana, with Galdrim stating they had no power to make them speak. Cibaba continued to choke the Altiri in the air, with their screams observed by the Nihil behind Cibaba.[1]

As Cibaba released the two and watched them plummet to the ground, the Nihil asked if[1] he[3] knew the location of Kostana, with Cibaba declaring that the location had died with the guardians. The Nihil questioned Cibaba if they would be successful at their task, only for the former Jedi to not respond back. Frustrated, the Nihil inquired if the cloaked figure listened to them, with Cibaba responding that something was approaching. Curious to what he said, the Nihil and Cibaba looked into the sky to see a Nihil starship advancing toward them, with the Nihil stating to relax as the ship was allied with them. The discussion quickly changed once the ship, which was piloted by[1] Cibaba's former Tholothian Padawan[3]—by then a monster hunterTy Yorrick, opened fire at the two, with the Nihil jumping for cover and confused at the situation.[1]

Attack from the past

"Give me the infant."
"Sithspit! We haven't got time for this. Incoming!"
―Cibaba requests Yorrick give him Kostana while the Nihil notifies him about an incoming starship[1]

With the boarding ramp descending, Yorrick proceeded to leap out with her blaster raised and performed a somersault on the ground before immediately firing at the Nihil, striking them in the shoulder. Noticing the Altiri on the ground, Yorrick rushed over to a dying Galdrim and requested the whereabouts of Kostana, with the Altiri notifying Yorrick she was out of harm's way and desired for the monster hunter to leave Kostana as such. The conversation ended abruptly as the Nihil fired their blaster at Yorrick, who deflected the bolt with her lightsaber. As Yorrick ran through the forest and attempted to find Kostana, the Nihil pursued after her with their blaster at hand. While using the Force to locate Kostana, Yorrick was suspended from the action after Cibaba brought a[1] Force-consuming[5] Nameless creature into the battle.[1]

Commanding the Nameless to detect Yorrick, the Nihil informed the Tholothian the Nameless would be troublesome for her and sang[1] the nursery rhyme[6] attributed to the creatures.[5] Scared of the creature, Yorrick called her droid, Rover, on the comms to guide the starship to her location. However, her transmission was overheard by the Nameless, which quickly advanced toward a running Yorrick. As she ran inside a room to hide, Yorrick found a grief-stricken Kostana and rescued the girl from her hiding spot. Exiting the home, Yorrick came face-to-face with the Nameless and Cibaba, who advised his Padawan the creature would not injure them without his control. Cibaba instructed her to hand Kostana over after stating Yorrick's full first name, although the event would not transpire as the Nihil barged in and pointed out the starship from earlier was beginning to discharge laser fire at the three.[1]

Rover, in the cockpit of the ship, fired at the group on the ground, which sent the Nihil, Cibaba, and the Nameless airborne. Taking advantage of an opportunity to escape, Yorrick, carrying Kostana in her arms, leaped onto the starship as it blasted off. Each standing back up on their legs, Cibaba directed the Nihil to prepare his ship. The Nihil attempted to mention something the Eye of the Nihil,[1] Marchion Ro,[7] stated to them, only for an angered Cibaba to use the Force to choke the Nihil in the air. Demanding the gagging Nihil ready his starship again, Cibaba forced the Nihil into the ground, which splattered in contact with the pirate.[1] Cibaba later chased Yorrick and Kostana to[1] the planet[4] Abtin where they fought for a final time, which resulted in Cibaba being detained by Yorrick.[3]

Personality and traits

The Nihil being Force-slammed into the ground by an angered Cibaba.

The Nihil was stern with the parents of Kostana and snickered once they realized the two lied to them and Cibaba. The Nihil became annoyed when Cibaba did not answer them straight away, quickly vocalizing to the Azumel that he was a "freakshow." They believed the threat Cibaba perceived was simply an ally to them, only to be bewildered at seeing said ally fire toward them and Cibaba. When Yorrick exited the starship, she managed to launch a clean blaster shot at the disoriented Nihil, and was able to block a returning attack from the provoked pirate.[1]

The Nihil was confident the Nameless would disrupt the monster hunter and snickered again seeing it released, and even sang the nursery rhyme credited to the species. While Cibaba was focused on Yorrick, the Nihil was able to detect the incoming starship that resulted in Yorrick and Kostana fleeing. When issued a command that did not resonate with them, the Nihil spoke out to Cibaba about the order, only to be quickly silenced by the Jedi hunter. They had purple eyes and green skin, with a blue Eye of the Nihil insignia painted on their forehead.[1]

Skills and abilities

The Nihil employed a blaster and used it against Yorrick. Additionally, the humanoid was capable of maintaining pursuit of Yorrick after their shot was deflected by the Tholothian.[1]

Equipment

The Nihil wore a blue shirt, blue pants, and gray boots, with silver cloth wrapped around their arms and neck. They were equipped with a brown backpack with gray marks and a brown holster that carried a blaster they wielded briefly.[1]

  2. Star Wars: Timelines dates Starlight Beacon's destruction to 230 BBY. The implementation of the Guardian Protocols, which Star Wars: The High Republic Character Encyclopedia places in 229 BBY, took place one week after Starlight Beacon's fall according to The High Republic – Shadows of Starlight 1. As The High Republic Adventures (2023) 4 takes place one year and two weeks after the destruction of Starlight Beacon, it must be set in 228 BBY. Since the events of The High Republic Adventures (2023) 6 are set immediately following the fourth issue and depict the expansion of the Stormwall, the expansion must have taken place in the same year. Meanwhile, the events of "Tales from the Occlusion Zone: No Big Deal" include the Stormwall's expansion and also depict the start of Pikka Adren's pregnancy. A later story, "Tales from the Occlusion Zone: Sparks Fly," states that Adren is eight months pregnant during its events, indicating that it is set eight months after "No Big Deal," and therefore one year, eight months, and two weeks after the fall of Starlight Beacon. "Sparks Fly" is set during the Battle of Eriadu, an event that begins in The High Republic Adventures Phase III - The Wedding Spectacular. As StarWars.com Star Wars: The High Republic Chronological Reader's Guide on StarWars.com (article) (backup link) places The High Republic Adventures – Saber for Hire 3 between the events of "No Big Deal" and The Wedding Spectacular, its events must also be set in 228 BBY.
