The Tynnans were a species of furred and bucktoothed aquatic mammalian sentients from the planet Tynna. The species was adapted to freshwater environments and had sensitive snouts to make up for their poor eyesight. The species as a whole had an aptitude for bureaucracy and were regarded as jovial and gregarious in the wider galaxy. One Tynnan named Bazil served as a tracker for the Jedi Order during the High Republic Era.
Biology and appearance
Tynnans were a species of sentient beings from the planet Tynna.[4] They were covered in fur, and their mouths featured buck teeth.[5] An aquatic species, Tynnans lived in freshwater environments, with a high metabolism to keep themselves warm. Because of this, in warmer environments Tynnans shed fur from their thick coats. The Tynnans furred limbs had dexterous fingers and webbed toes to aid in swimming.[2]
Tynnans had beady eyes, giving them poor eyesight, to make up for this the Tynnan's bulbous nose had over 450 million scent receptors making some Tynnans well adapted to tracking scent.[2] When at an advanced age, a Tynnan's fur turned silver, and their eyes became milky. Moreover, Tynnans could also sustain ailments such as a bad leg.[3]
Society and Culture
The Tynnans' homeworld Tynna[4] was well-maintained, Tynnans being well adjusted to its freshwater environments. The Tynnans had technologically advanced culture being integrated into the larger galaxy for many decades. Tynnan society kept its population comfortable with state-offered necessities and amenities. Tynnan government was ruled by lottery, with every citizen having an equal opportunity to serve within the legislation.[2]
Tynnans in the galaxy
Tynnans were regarded as jovial and gregarious in the galaxy. The species was well integrated into galactic culture, being a member of the Galactic Republic for decades and having an embassy on Coruscant[2] The species as a whole had an aptitude for bureaucracy, which was put to good use in Deep Current, a resistance group that gathered data about the Galactic Empire.[4] A number of Tynnans fought against the Imperial Military during the Campaign at Salient.[1]
One Tynnan, Bazil, served as a tracker and ally of the Jedi Order during the High Republic Era.[5] Marzi was a Tynnan who resided in the city of New Xaxxis on the planet Metagos along with her mate Kassis and children.[3] A Tynnan dubbed Saltbite led Deep Fathom, an underground resistance network that operated against the Galactic Empire during the Imperial Era.[4] A noted Tynnan architect was Pisc Dowdrena, who designed Mos Espa City Hall.[6]
Behind the scenes
The Tynnans were created by Brian Daley for his novel Han Solo's Revenge (1979). James Luceno canonized them when he included one in Catalyst: A Rogue One Novel (2016).
Tynnans made their live action debut in 2024 with the creation of Bazil for Star Wars: The Acolyte.[7]
