Plot summary

On board a ship above the moon Ohma-D’un, Anakin Skywalker broods about being so far away from Padmé. Obi-Wan interrupts his brooding and tells him not to worry about her, urging him to stay focused on the mission. They return to the ship’s briefing room, where Anakin is surprised to see C-3PO on board, who says that the Naboo Queen Jamillia has appointed him as liaison to the Jedi. The Jedi Glaive and Zule Xiss are also present, along with the ARC Trooper Alpha-17. C-3PO begins the briefing, informing them that the Gungan leader Boss Nass has recently lost contact with a Gungan colony on the moon, which Queen Jamillia fears is the result of an attack by disgruntled spice miners attempting to steal the moon. Alpha-17 counters by saying that the spice miners would be no match for the capable Gungans, and Obi-Wan agrees. The Republic believes that Dooku and the Separatists are involved, and so have tasked those present with approaching the colony and performing reconnaissance as a small strike team, with C-3PO staying behind on comms.

The strike team lands on the moon with several clone troopers, and upon reaching the colony, they find that the entire Gungan population has been massacred, with droids surrounding their disfigured bodies. Against Obi-Wan’s objections, Anakin attacks the droids in anger, which causes them to retaliate. The strike team fends off the droids, and during the chaos Obi-Wan is struck in the head by a Magna bolas. The attacker reveals himself to be Durge, an immensely powerful Gen’Dai bounty hunter working for the Separatists, who stands on the injured Kenobi’s head as he threatens to kill the remaining hostages. Before Durge can go any further, Anakin force pushes him away, but the bounty hunter throws his Magna bolas, which wrap around the Padawan’s neck, generating a magnetic field that stuns him. Glaive and Zule attempt to fight Durge, but they prove to be no match for his strength as Zule is knocked unconscious with a single strike.

The battle continues for some time as Anakin and Obi-Wan recover. Surrounded on all sides by Droids, Obi-Wan orders Anakin to find the hostages that were mentioned by Durge, with Alpha-17 ordered to accompany him, who objects on the basis of the hostages being expendable. Obi-Wan strongly reaffirms his order and Alpha-17 complies, leaving the area with Anakin. Durge activates the gas that killed the Gungans, burning the Jedi's skin as the immune bounty hunter lifts up the unconscious Zule by her hair. Glaive attempts to perform a Jedi mind trick on Durge, which proves ineffective, and after a short battle alongside Kenobi in which they are both outmatched, Glaive is decapitated by a crimson lightsaber. Obi-Wan turns around to see Asajj Ventress standing proudly alongside Durge.
