- "On my very first mission with Master Mirro, on Gatalenta, we met a Vintian sculptor called Shale."
[Geode becomes uneasy.]
"No stone carving! She only worked in metals. Made amazing stuff." - ―Amadeo Azzazzo, to the crew of the Vessel
Shale was a Vintian sculptor who lived during the High Republic Era. She worked in metals and operated on[1] the Core Worlds planet[2] Gatalenta.[1] By 232 BBY,[3] while Jedi Master Mirro Lox and[1] his[4] Jedi Padawan Amadeo Azzazzo undertook a mission on Gatalenta, they met Shale.[1]
In 228 BBY,[5] while the Byne Guild members Affie Hollow, Leox Gyasi, and the Vinitan Geode were on[1] the Core Worlds[2] planet Coruscant, they met the various members of a group they had been hired to take to[1] the Mid Rim[2] planet Kashyyyk for a mission. After greeting Azzazzo, Hollow mentally noted that the Padawan had been one of the few Vessel passengers to have ever been unsurprised by Geode, and Azzazzo informed the crew of the time he met Shale. After realizing he had left Geode uneasy because of the hint at carving, due to Vintians being a mineral-based species, the Padawan quickly noted that Shale had only worked in metals and that she made "amazing" stuff.[1]
Behind the scenes
Shale was mentioned in the 2025 young-adult novel The High Republic: Into the Light, written by Claudia Gray as part of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project's[1] Phase III.[6]

Inside Star Wars: The High Republic: Meet the New Heroes of Phase III on StarWars.com (backup link) and
Amadeo Azzazzo in the Databank (backup link), at the time of the emergence of the Nihil and Drengir, which Star Wars: The High Republic Character Encyclopedia dates to 232 BBY, Mirro Lox and Amadeo Azzazzo were away in the Outer Rim on a mission. As The High Republic: Into the Light states the mission on Gatalenta was Azzazzo's first with Lox, it must have occurred by 232 BBY.

- ↑ Star Wars: Timelines dates Starlight Beacon's destruction to 230 BBY. The implementation of the Guardian Protocols, which Star Wars: The High Republic Character Encyclopedia places in 229 BBY, took place one week after Starlight Beacon's fall according to The High Republic – Shadows of Starlight 1. As The High Republic Adventures (2023) 16, which features the Stormwall going down, takes place one year and a few months after the destruction of Starlight Beacon, it must be set in 228 BBY. The events of The High Republic: Tears of the Nameless also take place in 228 BBY per the reasoning here. As The High Republic: Into the Light states its events occur after the events of Tears of the Nameless and before the Stormwall goes down, they must also take place in that year.
