Shadowsilk was a form of synthetic silk created by the chemists of Ayelixe/Krongbing Textiles after they studied the properties of the fur of the Defel, a species with the ability to bend light around their bodies to make themselves practically invisible.[2] Members of the Sakiyan species, who used the silk of the umbraspider to make shadowsuits that also made the wearer practically invisible, claimed that the umbraspider's silk was superior to shadowsilk.[1]
Behind the scenes
In the current Star Wars canon, shadowsilk was mentioned in the 2019 Star Wars Roleplaying supplement Gadgets and Gear, which was published by Fantasy Flight Games.[1] The silk originated in the Star Wars Legends continuity, where it was first mentioned in Rules of Engagement: The Rebel SpecForce Handbook, a 1995 supplement for Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game that was written by Timothy S. O'Brien and published by West End Games.[3] It then appeared for the first time in the 2011 BioWare massively multiplayer online roleplaying game, Star Wars: The Old Republic.[4]
