By 3 ABY,[2] the R5 series astromech droid had access to the home of an individual named Saya in Jaunta's Hope, a town on the Outer Rim moon Toshara. While it resided in Jaunta's Hope, it received weekly memory purges.[1] In 3 ABY,[2] its motivation actuator was stolen by thieves, rending the droid unable to move outside of Saya's home in Jaunta's Hope.[1]

A replacement motivation actuator purchased for the droid by Kay Vess

That year,[2] the human thief Kay Vess noticed the droid malfunctioning outside of the home. When Vess commented on the bad day the droid seemed to be having, the droid responded in binary by telling her what happened and asking for help. Noticing that Vess did not understand the droid's binary, a human mechanic sitting on a nearby bench translated the droid's request into Galactic Basic for Vess. Afterward, Vess asked the bystander if they were planning to help the droid, to which the human responded dismissively, stating that it was not their droid. Vess later purchased a replacement motivation actuator from the scrap merchant Grenner Durangos, who operated a shop in Jaunta's Hope.[1]

While Vess was gone, a group of stormtroopers stopped by and laughed at the droid's predicament. When Vess eventually returned to the droid, she installed the new actuator that she purchased, allowing it to move once again. Grateful, the droid told Vess that it would not forget her, at least until its next memory wipe. It then proceeded inside the nearby home, allowing Vess to enter. While inside, Vess stole a Canto Pass game piece, a copy of episode 15 of the holodrama Family of the Frontier Worlds, and an entry about Jaunta's Hope from the journal of the smuggler Jet Kordo.[1]

The droid had masculine programming and communicated using binary. While it was stranded, it had a white chassis with accents of red and blue.[1]

Behind the scenes

The droid appeared in the 2024 video game Star Wars Outlaws, which was developed by Massive Entertainment and published by Ubisoft. The droid was identified by the game's subtitles as simply "astromech." It was part of the optional intel quest "Motivation actuator," in which the player gains access to Saya's stash, its collectible "The Datapad" trinket, and two other collectibles: the holodrama episode and the journal entry.[1]
