―Human mechanic translating a R5 droid to Kay Vess — 20?cb=20250116042720 ▶️ (file info)[1]

A human mechanic resided in the town of Jaunta's Hope on the Outer Rim moon Toshara[1] in 3 ABY.[2] They had tan skin and brown eyes.[1] During that year[2] they sat on a bench in Jaunta's Hope near a damaged R5 astromech. During which they wore a red shirt, brown pants, black boots, and a tan hat as well as a device on their wrist.[1]

This section of the article assumes 100% game completion of Star Wars Outlaws. Any alternate stories may be noted in the "Behind the scenes" section. The events in this section may or may not have been confirmed as canon.

While they were sitting on the bench a human thief named Kay Vess approached the droid and commented on its apparent bad day. The droid responded in binary by telling Vess that thieves stole its motivation actuator and asked her for help. Seeing that Vess did not understand the droid, the mechanic translated what the droid said into Galactic Basic for Vess. Afterward Vess asked the human if they were planning to help the droid, to which they responded that it wasn't their droid. Vess later returned with a replacement motivation actuator and installed it into the droid. The human, still sitting nearby, translated the droid's appreciation for Vess before the droid headed into a nearby home.[1]

Behind the scenes

The human appeared in the 2024 video game, Star Wars Outlaws developed by Massive Entertainment and published by Ubisoft. They were identified by the game's subtitles as simply "mechanic" and were apart of the intel quest "Motivation actuator", in which the player gains access to Saya's stash and two of the game's collectibles.[1]
