- "As the senator for Salliche is aware, I speak on behalf of not just the Jedi, but also the billions in need of protection. Indeed, as I'm sure you'll all remember, it wasn't that long ago that Senator Bulgeski called for the Guard to intervene when Salliche was being ravaged by Norkronian raiders. Is he really suggesting that citizens in the Outer Rim shouldn't receive the same security enjoyed by his own planet?"
- ―Dooku
Salliche was an agriworld located in the Core Worlds of the galaxy. It provided crops to other worlds in the region like Coruscant. While it was being ravaged by Norkronian raiders, Salliche's Senator Bulgeski called for the Republic Guard of the Galactic Republic to intervene, although not long after he argued against similar support for other worlds in 42 BBY. In 3 ABY, the Galactic Empire was victorious in operations on Salliche with no civilian casualties.
Description
- "Salliche is the breadbasket of the Core Worlds. If we fell, how would planets such as Coruscant survive?"
"There are plenty of agricultural worlds in the Outer Rim who could supply crops. Perhaps Salliche is afraid of the competition?" - ―Bulgeski and Dooku
The planet Salliche was an agriworld[3] located in the Salliche system in the Core Worlds, in grid square K-10 on the Standard Galactic Grid.[1] It was home to the Sallichen people.[3]
History
- "Reports of futher Imperial victories on Salliche have been confirmed with no civilian casualties, ensuring operations there are an unqualified success."
- ―Dorna Parros, HoloNet News
Salliche supported worlds such as Coruscant and was represented there in the Galactic Senate.
Salliche was a member of the Galactic Republic and was represented in the Galactic Senate by the Sallichen Senator Bulgeski. It acted as the breadbasket of the Core Worlds, providing crops for planets such as the Republic capital, Coruscant. When the world was ravaged by Norkronian raiders, Bulgeski called for the Republic Guard to intervene before the Senate.[3]
Not long after this[3] in 42 BBY,[5], Jedi Master Dooku spoke on behalf of the Jedi Order before the senate and advised them not to make cuts to the Republic's trade route defense program; however, Bulgeski objected to the Jedi's attempt to influence the senate. Dooku then reminded those present of Bulgeski's recent call for the Republic Guard to aid his own planet and suggested the residents of the Outer Rim Territories should receive the same protection. Bulgeski argued Salliche's importance in providing for the other Core Worlds, but Dooku retorted that there were agriworlds in the Outer Rim that could provide the same support and perhaps it was their competition that Salliche feared. Bulgeski called this a scandalous accusation before Supreme Chancellor Kalpana dismissed Dooku's advice.[3]
In 14 BBY,[6] a frigate in the Imperial Navy of the Galactic Empire, successor state of the Republic, shared its name with Salliche.[7] In 3 ABY,[8] the Empire carried out operations on Salliche where it claimed to be victorious with no civilian casualties. This was covered in a broadcast of the HoloNet News by reporter Dorna Parros, who called the operations an unqualified success.[4]
Behind the scenes
In the current Star Wars canon, Salliche was first mentioned in the 2019 audiobook Dooku: Jedi Lost, which was written by Cavan Scott.[3] It originated in the Star Wars Legends continuity, where the world was first mentioned in the magazine Star Wars Adventure Journal 1 in February 1994 in both the short stories "Chessa's Doom" by Peter M. Schweighofer[9] and "First Contact" by Timothy Zahn.[10]
