- "Governor Thorden and the Dawn are attempting to remove me from power. They were heard plotting with one of my own."
- ―Gorak Palas
During 3 ABY, the Imperial Governor Thorden staged a plot along with Crimson Dawn and the Pyke Syndicate traitor Tizlak Sharr to ovethrow the Pyke Syndicate underboss Gorak Palas, in attempt to seize control over the moon of Toshara.
Frustrated over Palas' denial to fund his gambling schemes, the Pyke Syndicate advisor Tizlak Sharr would work with Governor Thorden as a spy, allowing them and Crimson Dawn to gain power on the moon. However, Palas, after discovering the presence of an unknown traitor, has attempted to hire the outlaw Kay Vess to thwart the plot.
Prelude
- "He does not deserve the power of the Pykes. He could be pulling double, triple the profit, but he does not listen to reason."
- ―Tizlak Sharr, over Gorak Palas
By 3 ABY,[2] the Pyke Syndicate has established a strong presence on the moon of Toshara, ruled by the Pyke underboss Gorak Palas. However, the faction is rivaled by the Toshara Garrison of the Galactic Empire, along with the criminal organization of Crimson Dawn. The Pyke advisor Tizlak Sharr, after being denied by Palas to fund his trips of pulling off casino schemes, has believed that Palas does not listen to reason, and therefore unworthy to rule the pykes.[1]
The plot
Treachery amidst the Pykes
Tizlak Sharr first began communicating with the Imperial Governor Thorden, who took interest in working with Sharr in overthrowing Palas. Though Sharr communicated with Thorden through a secured channel, the outlaw Kay Vess discovered an encrypred Hologram of the plot.[1]
Because Vess provided the information to the Crimson Dawn affiliate Eleera Soi, Palas was oblivious to the presence of a traitor, and Crimson Dawn would gain early knowledge of Sharr's plot. Palas, however, overheard a hostile faction plotting with a Pyke affiliate, and requested Vess to find and bring the traitor to him for a conversation.[1]
After Vess revealed the plot to Palas, he would be informed of the indentity of a traitor. Palas would later request Vess to work for him after believing that Sharr was communicating with a hostile affiliate, demanding her to find Sharr and bring the traitor to him.[1]
After meeting with Vess in his suite at the Makal's Gambling Parlor, Palas directed Vess to the Mirogana Market, where he believed Crimson Dawn could still be communicating at. Before Vess left, Palas also demanded her to return his stolen ring. At the market, Vess overhead a mercenary discussing over a comlink about Sharr's betrayal. Nix would help Vess to steal the comlink, with Vess being able to track the signal to Renpalli Station with additional help. Vess would then pilot the Trailblazer to travel to the space station.[1]
Capturing Tizlak Sharr
At the station, Vess would slice through a locked door, where she encountered and bypassed Crimson Dawn enforcers. Vess later met Sharr, who attempted to reason and bribe Vess with a fortune of credits from Crimson Dawn.[1]
Vess would accept the bribery from Sharr, departing from the station with the Trailblazer. However, Sharr believed that Vess would tell Palas about his plans, ordering JLF-19 Junkros Fighters piloted by pirates to attack Vess. After destroying the fighters and returning to Palas, Vess confirmed the identity of Tizlak Sharr as the traitor. However, Palas was dissatisfied by the outlaw's failure to capture the traitor, paying her only partially from the original payment. However, Eleera Soi would later contact Vess, apologizing for Sharr's act of sending pirates and thanking her with a payment of credits for not sending him to Palas.[1]
After Vess denied the bribery, Sharr ordered the Crimson Dawn enforcers to attack her. Vess would defeat the enforcers, convincing Sharr to come along peacefully. After escorting Sharr to the Trailblazer, Vess was attacked by JLF-19 Junkros Fighters of Crimson Dawn as a result for taking their informant. After destroying the fighters, Vess would return to Palas. After revealing to the Pyke about the traitor, Palas would send someone to collect Sharr, then sending Vess away after rewarding her with her payment.[1]
Behind the scenes
Appearance
The plot to overthrow Gorak Palas appeared throughout the Massive Entertainment video game Star Wars Outlaws, released on August 30, 2024. The plot was first mentioned in a hologram during the main quest, "Underworld" and later served as the main focus of the optional side quest of "The Traitor".[1]
Gameplay variations
After discovering the holographic message in the main quest "Underworld", the player can later decide to either inform the plot to Crimson Dawn, or reserve it for Gorak Palas, with Palas' dialogue in "The Traitor" changing depending on the player's choice. Palas would also request Vess to return the ring stolen by Nix when first meeting Palas during the side quest "The Traitor", with Vess being unable to give the ring either due to choosing to keep it or selling it previously. Vess can also return the ring.[1]
When Vess requested help to track down the comlink, the Rodian Waka would provide assistance if the quest is commenced before the main quest "The Wreck". If the quest is commenced after "The Wreck", the BX-series droid commando ND-5 would provide assistance instead. The player can also decide whether to accept the bribe or capture Sharr as requested. The choices would influence Vess' reputation among the factions according to the choice, along with receiving a different amount of credits as a reward.[1]
