"I don't know you."
"What, you never make new friends?"
"I have enough friends."
―Gorak Palas and Kay Vess[1]

Gorak Palas was an underboss of the Pyke Syndicate and ran their operations on the moon Toshara in 3 ABY.[1]

Biography

"The Pykes have the most say. Thanks to Gorak."
Danka Orsato to Kay Vess on Gorak's leadership in Toshara[1]

In the year 3 ABY, Palas met with an Imperial officer within Makal's, a cantina in the city of Mirogana. Representing Thorden, the Galactic Empire's governor of Toshara, the officer warned Palas that Mirogana was Thorden's city, to which Palas responded by having him killed by one of his bodyguards. He then ordered that the officer's corpse be disposed of, and that Thorden be told that the Pyke Syndicate would not increase its payments to him. Afterwards, he took notice of Kay Vess, who had infiltrated his room during his meeting with the officer in search of work. Initially amused and impressed by Vess's wit, he soon found himself disappointed when she namedropped Waka as the one who had directed her to him. He subsequently had his guards eject her from the room, telling her to come back when she was no longer new to the syndicates' world. Unbeknownst to Gorak, Vess's pet merquall, Nix, has stolen a ring that Palas was wearing. On another occasion, Gorak would hire Vess to deal with a traitor among the Pykes. Palas asked Vess for the ring back, which left her with a choice between keeping the ring or returning it to improve her reputation with the Pyke Syndicate. When the Hutt Clan sent ships with a valuable cargo to the moon, Palas attempted to buy Vess's aid during the battle, after realizing she was defending the ships over Toshara. Regardless of how much the Hutts were paying, Palas promised double.[1]
