"I saw Peleth."
"I'm sorry. Losing a Padawan. It can't be easy. No matter how much time has passed."
"That's just it. It was…beautiful. She's one with the Force now. It took me too long to see it. To stop blaming myself. But I'm at peace with it now."

Peleth was a Jedi Padawan of the Jedi Order who trained under Jedi Master Silandra Sho and died on a dangerous mission. Around 389 BBY, sometime after Peleth's passing, Sho took on another Padawan, Rooper Nitani. In 382 BBY, during a mission to the planet Gloam, Sho mentioned Peleth to Nitani for the first time and explained the difficulty she had had after losing her. Later that year, Sho made a pilgrimage to the moon Jedha and saw Peleth in the Kyber Mirrors in the Holy City. She then spoke about what she had seen with Jedi Master Creighton Sun, telling him it had taken her too long to stop blaming herself for Peleth's death, but that she was now at peace with it.

Biography

"Sometimes I have trouble letting go. But you should never think that I doubt you, Rooper. Quite the opposite. I lost someone, a long time ago, and learning to let go was very difficult. But it was necessary."
―Silandra Sho, to Rooper Nitani[3]

Peleth was a Jedi Padawan of the Jedi Order who trained under Jedi Master Silandra Sho during the High Republic Era[2] and died on a dangerous mission.[3] Sho blamed herself for Peleth's death[2] and had difficulty learning to let go, but felt it was necessary.[3] Around 389 BBY,[1] at some point after Peleth's passing, Sho took on another Padawan, Rooper Nitani, who heard from others at the Jedi Temple on[3] the planet[4] Coruscant about Peleth.[3] In 382 BBY,[5] during a mission to the planet Gloam, Sho mentioned her former apprentice to Nitani for the first time, explaining that she had had a hard time learning to let go after losing[3] her[2] and noting that while training Padawans, the master would learn as much as the pupil. Nitani was curious but avoided pressing for details, knowing Sho would talk about it only when she wanted to do so.[3]

Later that year,[5] Sho made a pilgrimage to the Holy City on the moon Jedha, where she visited the Kyber Mirrors. While looking at the mirrors, which could show inner truths and glimpses of the past and future to one who looked at them, Sho saw Peleth. After, she spoke with Jedi Master Creighton Sun about what she had seen. When Sun learned that Sho had seen Peleth, he offered condolences to her. Sho then said that Peleth was one with the Force and that what she had seen was beautiful. She further explained it had taken her too long to stop blaming herself for Peleth's death, but that she was now at peace with it.[2]

Powers and abilities

As a member of the Jedi Order, Peleth was Force-sensitive and trained to wield the Force.[3]

Behind the scenes

Peleth was first mentioned, albeit indirectly, in the 2022 junior novel The High Republic: Quest for the Hidden City, written by George Mann.[3] She was later identified in the audio drama The High Republic: The Battle of Jedha, also written by Mann[6] and released on January 3, 2023.[7] The spelling of her name was confirmed in the audio drama's script,[2] which released on February 14, 2023. Both works were published as part of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project's Phase II.[7]

Notes and references

  1. 1.0 1.1 "Shield of the Jedi" establishes that Rooper Nitani is around eighteen years old during its events. During the events of The High Republic: Quest for Planet X, which Star Wars: The High Republic Character Encyclopedia dates to 382 BBY, Nitani is fifteen years old. Therefore, "Shield of the Jedi" must take place around 379 BBY. "Shield of the Jedi" also establishes that Nitani became a Padawan ten years before its events, meaning she became a Padawan around 389 BBY. As The High Republic: Quest for the Hidden City establishes Peleth was Silandra Sho's Padawan before Nitani, she must have died by around that year.
