Ootoola was the vastly oceanic homeworld of the Ootoolan race. The world was located in the Morshdine sector of the Outer Rim Territories.
Description
- "...One -- stop calling them «fishfaces». They don't appreciate it, ..."
- ―Naradan D'ulin, to Vilmarh Grahrk
An Ootoolan.
A beautiful aquatic world dominated by unusual twisted rock formations. The natives of the planet, an amphibious humanoids Ootoolans, built their cities within the rocks.[4] Their skin was a mottled bright green, and their heads were adorned with a fin-like ridge and several finned jowls. Outside the planet, they were sometimes derogatorily referred to simply as «Fishfaces» due to their appearance.[5]
There were various fishes dwelling in the waters of Ootoola.[3]
History
- "Lovely planet Ootoola, full of Fishfaces, ruled by a Patriarch who is king and priest both. Some Fishfaces say Patriarch not pure enough. Kill Patriarch. Kill wifey. Seize the throne."
- ―Vilmarh Grahrk
The coup on Ootoola
Over the years, Ootoola had developed a theocratic monarchy, where one man – the patriarch – ruled as both king and priest. The ruler was expected to strictly adhere to their laws, thereby achieving a certain level of purity.[5] But in the final decades of the Galactic Republic,[6] a group of radical Ootoolans accused the ruling patriarch of not being «pure» enough. They formed a group called the Revolutionary Purist Council, hired assassins, and killed the patriarch and his wife. After that, they took over the throne and chose a new, «pure» leader. During the chaos, princess Foolookoola, the only surviving member of the royal family, managed to escape.[3]
Even though Ootoola was part of the Galactic Republic, the Senate decided not to get involved, saying it was an internal matter. The Jedi Order was ready to help, but the new patriarch — who supported the rebels — refused to let them visit the planet. With no one left to turn to, the loyalists of the old monarchy secretly planned to get Foolookoola off the planet. Her relatives and guardian, Naradan D'ulin, reached out to a smuggler named Vilmarh Grahrk to help.[3]
At first, the escape seemed like it would go smoothly. But when Grahrk attacked the guards, he drew too much attention. Once they reached the ship, he came up with a distraction: he aimed the ship’s weapons at the Central Palace and blew it up. In the confusion that followed, Foolookoola and her companions escaped to a nearby planet Dur Sabon, where she would wait for the right moment to return home.[3]
In the wake of the Battle of Endor, the Alliance obtained a rare edition of the Imperial Handbook, and distributed it among key personnel such as Wedge Antilles. He annotated the text with assessments of Imperial materiel and tactics, and discussed Rogue Squadron missions that led to the destruction of an IM-S-653 Orbital Garrison over the planet Ootoola.[7]
