"Ah, the Mistryl. Heard of you. Good fighter types, you."
―Vilmarh Grahrk, upon meeting Naradan[3]

Naradan D'ulin was a Mistryl Shadow Guard who served as an attendant and caretaker to Princess Foolookoola from the planet Ootoola during the last decade of the Galactic Republic. Royal family aide

"Be not afraid, Princess, I swear to you -- I will find a way out or one will be provided."
―Naradan D'ulin tries to comfort Foolookoola[3]

A professional warrior from the ranks of the Emberlene order of only female fighters known as the Mistryl Shadow Guard.[1] Around 33 BBY,[4] D'ulin became the attendant and caretaker of the princess of the planet Ootoola, Foolookoola.[3]

For a long time, the planet Ootoola was ruled by a theocratic monarchy, with the patriarch holding a central role as both the head of the people and a religious leader. Some Ootoolans grew disillusioned with the reigning patriarch and organized a coup. The revolutionaries killed the patriarch and his wife, and placed on the seized throne what they claimed was a more "pure" patriarch. The only surviving member of the royal family, the very young Princess Foolookoola, was saved by loyalists, including her uncles and her Mistryl guardian, Naradan D'ulin.[3]

Deal with a Demon

"I know the difference between a Demon and a Devaronian, and I'd rather trust a Demon. You play us false, and there is no place in the galaxy you can go that I won't find you."
"You wound Ville."
"Only if i miss."
―Naradan D'ulin threatens Vilmarh Grahrk[3]

Since the Republic ignored the regime change on the distant Outer Rim planet and the new rulers forbade the Jedi Order from intervening, the loyalists were left to act on their own. They hired the smuggler Vilmarh Grahrk and asked him to transport the princess to nearby planet Dur Sabon. From their very first meeting, D’ulin expressed distrust toward the mercenary. However, seeing no other way off the planet, she agreed to cooperate as main Foolookoola’s protector.

On the way to the ship, the princess was surprised by Grahrk’s resemblance to mythical demons — something the Devaronian found amusing, unlike the Mistryl, who pointed a blaster at him and warned she would kill him if he betrayed them. Suddenly, a group of coup supporters, who had bribed Grahrk, sprang from an ambush. The revolutionaries seized Naradan and Foolookoola while Vilmarh welcomed the soldiers. Furious, D’ulin lashed out at the smuggler, declaring that the loyalists could have paid him twice as much if that was what it took. The Devaronian replied sarcastically that he would keep that in mind for next time, then left with the soldiers to celebrate his newly granted title of “hero of the Pure Patriarch.”[3].

The prisoners were sentenced to execution the following morning and locked in a dungeon. All through the night, Naradan comforted Foolookoola, promising to come up with a plan for escape — and revenge. Suddenly, blaster fire echoed outside the cell. At first, the Mistryl thought it might be the princess’s uncles coming to their aid, but after the door exploded open, it was Vilmarh Grahrk who appeared. Enraged, Naradan attacked the Devaronian, intending to kill him. The smuggler quickly explained his plan: the princess’s capture had been a ruse to distract the revolutionaries, and now that no one was looking for them, escape would be far easier. Still uncertain of the mercenary’s sincerity, D’ulin took up a blaster, grabbed Foolookoola’s hand, and followed Grahrk.

Along the way, they encountered two guards. The princess’s guardian hoped to sneak past them, but the overconfident Vilmar opened fire, killing the enemies—and drawing attention from across the compound. Naradan and Foolookoola were forced to flee quickly toward the Grahrk's ship. Once they reached it, Vilmar came up with a way to throw off pursuit: he aimed the ship’s weapons at the Central Palace and destroyed it. Naradan was stunned by the sight of the burning Ootoolan holy sanctuary – just as shocked as the pursuing purists – which allowed the ship carrying the princess to escape from Ootoola.[3].

After the escape

Vilmarh: "Remember -- you promised to pay Villie double."
Naradan: "You're lucky I haven't gutted you! I'm opposed to paying you anything!"
Foolookoola: "The law says when you deal with a demon you must expect to get burned. Pay the demon his price. And if he ever enters our presence again -- kill him."
―A conversation on Dur Sabon[3]

On Dur Sabon, Foolookoola was warmly welcomed by friends of her family. They offered her indefinite refuge and expressed hope for the princess’s eventual return to her homeland. Shortly thereafter, Vilmarh Grahrk brought up the matter of payment, which angered Naradan, who believed he deserved nothing from them. For a moment silent, Foolookoola intervened to remind them of the legality of the deal. The princess insisted that Grahrk be paid double for his services – but on one condition: if he ever approached them again, he would be killed. The Devaronian assured them that such a thing would never happen, and that if it ever did, he would rather shoot himself first.[3]

Over the following years, the thrilling tale of Grahrk’s daring mission and the princess’s rescue was retold in cantinas across the Outer Rim Territories among various spacers.[5]
