- "Immediately following this session, we shall submit a list of our fallen Imperial patriots, martyrs who gave everything on the brutal streets of Ghorman. A list, that even now, grows longer as the full measure of the Ghorman perfidy comes into focus."
- ―Nico, in a session of the senate regarding the Ghorman Massacre
Nico was a white-furred alien who served as a senator in the Imperial Senate of the Galactic Empire. The day after the Ghorman Massacre in 2 BBY, they spoke at a senate session in the Imperial Senate Building on the planet Coruscant and revealed that they would be submitting a list of the Imperial forces that had died on Ghorman after the session. Nico called the Imperials martyrs, and spoke against the Ghorman people who had been massacred, following anti-Ghorman talking points the Empire had long been pushing.
Biography
- "Of all the things at risk, the loss of an objective reality is perhaps the most dangerous. The death of truth is the ultimate victory of evil. When truth leaves us, when we let it slip away, when it is ripped from our hands, we become vulnerable to the appetite of whatever monster screams the loudest."
- ―Mon Mothma
Nico spoke before the Senate the day after the Ghorman Massacre.
Nico was an alien senator in the Imperial Senate of the Galactic Empire.[1] In 2 BBY,[2] after a prolonged Imperial whispering campaign to turn the galaxy against the Ghorman people of the planet Ghorman,[3] the Empire orchestrated a massacre there[4] that killed hundreds or thousands of the natives,[5] as well as some Imperial forces. While some resistance members fought back during the Imperial attack, news coverage of the event spun it as a full insurrection by the Ghorman with help from outside agitators.[4]
The following day, an early session of the senate with a set agenda was called in the Imperial Senate Building on[1] the planet[5] Coruscant. After the Senate's Oathkeeper declared a quorum and called the session to order, Nico stood alone in a repulsorpod hovering in the Galactic Senate Chamber and spoke before those gathered. The alien declared that, immediately following the session, they would submit a list of Imperial "patriots" who had died on Ghorman, calling them martyrs as their list grew "longer" even as they spoke; the senator characterized the world as brutal and its residents deceitful and untrustworthy.[1]
Nico spoke against the Ghorman people and called the Imperials who had died during the massacre martyrs.
Senators Den Gane and Karloo spoke after Nico and shared similar sentiments, but when Senior Senator Mon Mothma took the floor, she decried the senate as having lost sight of the truth about what had happened on Ghorman. She called it a genocide and declared Galactic Emperor Sheev Palpatine a monster, after which the live feed of the session was cut. As many senators yelled accusations of treachery at her, Mothma exited the chamber and fled from Coruscant.[1]
Personality and traits
Nico used anti-Ghorman talking points pushed by the Empire while speaking in senate, aligning themself with the soldiers who had died in the massacre and against the many civilians. The alien had white fur and tan skin.[1]
Equipment
During the senate session the day after the Ghorman Massacre, Nico wore black and orange robes and a golden necklace.[1]
Behind the scenes
Ivan Manzella created concept art of Nico.
Nico appeared in "Welcome to the Rebellion," the ninth episode of the second season of the live-action Disney+ series Andor,[1] which aired on May 6, 2025.[6] Concept art for the character was created by Ivan Manzella,[7] with its 3D printed mold designed by Brian Best, reinforced with fiberglass for running in foam latex by Robert Skene as part of work done for Neal Scanlan's creature shop, with Kenny Wilson serving as Moldshop HOD.[8]
The episode's subtitles identify both Nico and Gane as "Senator Nico" when they speak, although an Aurebesh caption on a monitor correctly identifies Gane during the other senator's dialogue.[1] The episode's credits, which lists the characters in order of appearance, also list Senator Gane prior to Senator Nico despite Nico appearing before Gane in the episode itself. Both characters were performed by Caitlin Nicholas and voiced by Colin Purves.[1] Ivan Manzella created concept art of Nico.[7] The senators' names are also swapped in the episode's script, which was released on Disney Debut.[9]
