Keraan was a human female who was the queen[2] of the city-state Firevale on the planet Gansevor[1] in 382 BBY.[3]
Biography
During Keraan's rule, Firevale enjoyed a lucrative monopoly over the rare mineral baudraxite, mined within its territory in the mountains above the Nomad Plains of Gansevor. This monopoly drew resentment from the rival city-state of Bethune. In around 382 BBY, Keraan's son, Prince Colden, married a scion of the Bethunian royal family, Princess Sicatra, and brought her back to Firevale. Bethune used the marriage, which it viewed as an 'abduction', as an excuse to besiege Firevale without warning, sending a large army led by Field Marshal Tozen to bombard the city walls.[1] Luckily for Keraan, her envoy to the planetary capital was able to send a message to the Republic's Office of the Frontier and request for help in resolving the dispute.[4] The plea was picked up by the Jedi Knights Porter Engle and Barash Silvain, who arrived at Firevale to provide much-needed relief, as well as to investigate the cause of the conflict.[1]
While Engle dealt with the besieging army, which had been joined by a mercenary force led by Abediah Viess, Silvain interviewed the members of Firevale's royal family. This included an audience with Keraan herself, who quickly began arguing with her son, Colden, attacking his decision to marry Sicatra and thereby bring so much misery upon his home city. Their dispute was interrupted by the arrival of Sicatra herself, who convinced Silvain that she and Colden were innocent victims in the conflict.[2] Yet unbeknownst to Keraan and the Jedi, Sicatra and Colden had actually manufactured the siege in the hopes that it would force Keraan to abdicate in favor of her son, allowing Colden to include Bethune in the baudraxite trade. All of this was revealed when Sicatra's ally, Tozen, was betrayed and killed in field by Viess, who wanted to plunder Firevale. The bombardment began to intensify as Viess targeted the buildings within the city, causing Keraan to order the evacuation of the citizens into the baudraxite mines below. A distraught Sicatra admitted her plot to Silvain, and Keraan reacted by attempting to murder her daughter-in-law with a dagger. Keraan was only prevented from doing so by Silvain, who used the Force to stay her hand. Sicatra then went on to make a speech to the Bethunian soldiers, persuading them to give up the siege and turn on Viess' mercenaries.[5]
