Keaton Murag was a human Jedi Master during the High Republic Era.[1] He served as the marshal of the Naboo temple. Whilst on Naboo, he saved the lives of hundreds of individuals during a mining disaster, which earned him the respect of the Naboo monarchy, though Murag downplayed his own bravery. According to accounts from survivors of the disaster, Murag single-handedly used the Force to hold back an explosion as miners escaped. Just prior to the Great Hyperspace Disaster[2] in 232 BBY,[6] Murag was elevated to the Jedi High Council.[2] When the Council convened to decide whether to participate in action against the Nihil marauder group alongside the Galactic Republic, Murag was present in the Jedi Council Chamber personally. After ten of the eleven attending Masters voted, the vote was left with a tie, leaving Master Jora Malli to break it. Malli decided to accompany the Republic Defense Coalition effort against the Nihil.[5]
Murag wielded a blue-bladed lightsaber.[7]
Behind the scenes
Keaton Murag was created for the Star Wars: The High Republic publishing initiative and was introduced in the fourth episode of Star Wars: The High Republic Show on July 28, 2021.[1] According to senior illustration manager and concept artist Jeffrey Thomas, Murag's age was debated during his development. Early concepts of Murag created by concept artist Ornella Savarese depict the Jedi at an age younger than his final design, before Thomas and Savarese gradually aged him up during the conceptualization process.[8]
