Jedi Quest: The Shadow Trap is the sixth in a series of young reader novels that chronicle the adventures of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker between Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace and Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones.
Publisher's summary
Master and apprentice.
Chosen by fate. Destined for conflict.
The planet of Mawan has been decimated by war and the resulting chaos. The population has taken refuge underground, while three greedy crimelords battle over food and fuel on the planet's surface. Only one group has a chance at securing peace—the Jedi.
But what if there's something even more sinister behind the chaos? What if the planet is really a trap, with many innocent lives held in the balance?
What if, in order to save Mawan, a Jedi must die?
Plot summary
Unsettling visions of the future trouble Anakin Skywalker as he accompanies Obi-Wan Kenobi and Jedi Master Yaddle to Mawan, a lawless world ruled by competing crime groups that have forced the innocent population underground. The Jedi are led into a trap by their old foe, Granta Omega, who is secretly running one of the crime groups. To prevent Granta from launching a biological attack on the populace, Yaddle sacrifices herself by blocking the path of a weapon with her body. Anakin blames himself for Yaddle’s death, for in her sacrifice, she rescues him from Omega’s clutches. Though Omega escapes, Obi-Wan learns the truth behind their persistent enemy: he is the son of Xanatos, Qui-Gon Jinn’s late fallen apprentice.
Continuity
A change in the roster of the Jedi Council from Episode I (1999) to Episode II (2002) allowed the intervening stories of the Expanded Universe to eliminate prominent Jedi Masters in a dramatic fashion. The comic book Star Wars: Zam Wesell had Yarael Poof sacrifice himself to save Coruscant from a Force talisman weapon, while Yaddle sacrificed herself in Jedi Quest: The Shadow Trap. Their vacant spots on the Council were filled by newcomers Coleman Trebor and Shaak Ti.[1]
Gardulla The Hutt was said to be dead although she later appeared in the Star Wars: The Clone Wars series. The planet Koba and its native Kobans were misspelled as "Koda" and "Kodans" respectively.
