The Iotran Guard was a defense force within the InterGalactic Banking Clan's Collections and Security Division, placed under the command of Captain Tost. Assisted by IG-100 MagnaGuards, they were assigned to safeguard the corporation's collection of vault worlds. After the Clone Wars[1]—fought between 22 BBY and 19 BBY[3]erupted, the Iotran Guard joined with the Confederacy of Independent Systems in their fight against the Galactic Republic, absorbed alongside their captain into the Separatist Droid Army.[1] The guard shared its name with the Iotran species[4] and originated from the Iotra system[1][2] of the Outer Rim Territories.[5]

Behind the scenes

The Iotran Guard was introduced in the current Star Wars canon in Rise of the Separatists, a 2019 supplement to Fantasy Flight Games' series of Star Wars Roleplaying products.[1] In the Star Wars Legends continuity, the Iotran Guard was introduced in Geonosis and the Outer Rim Worlds, a 2004 sourcebook for the Star Wars Roleplaying Game by Wizards of the Coast.[6]

(backup link) (screenshot) Jason Fry, co-author of The Essential Atlas and a number of maps in the current Star Wars canon (see a list here), stated his intention to create homeworlds for numerous species based on context implied from their names. Given this principle, this article makes a similar basic assumption for Iotran Guard in relation to Iotra system.
