"Transponder's coming back as… Infernum, sir."
―An Imperial pit crew member[3]

The Infernum was a Zeta-class shuttle used by the Inquisitorius, an organization tasked with hunting Jedi. In 18 BBY, the shuttle transported master of the Inquisitors Darth Vader; the Inquisitors Sixth Brother, Ninth Sister, Tenth Brother; and multiple Purge Troopers to the Outer Rim planet Mon Cala to track a potential Jedi. It remained on the landing pad while the Battle of Dac City erupted, with the Inquisitorius team securing the platform. The ship was destroyed after large waves crashed across Mon Cala's surface.

Description

"You're familiar with this ship, Governor Tarkin?"
"I am, lieutenant. It represents an entirely different form of diplomacy."
―An Imperial lieutenant and Wilhuff Tarkin[3]

The Infernum was a Zeta-class shuttle utilized by the Galactic Empire's Jedi hunting Inquisitorius when traveling together,[2] with the capacity to carry at least eighteen individuals.[5] Red lights illuminated the shuttle's interior. It was equipped with a hyperdrive and a transponder code that identified the ship as "Infernum."[3] The ship's hull was black with a red tinted viewport in the cockpit. It featured two laser cannons at the end of its two side wings,[4] which resided in the rear and folded up when the ship landed.[3] A vertical wing atop the shuttle's body featured another two cannons.[4] Its doors could slide open, producing an entry ramp for boarding and disembarking.[3]

History

The shuttle was manufactured by the joint forces of Sienar Fleet Systems and Telgorn Corporation.[1] The Inquisitorius deployed the Zeta-class shuttle for some of its first missions.[2] In 18 BBY,[6] the Inquisitorius' master,[2] Darth Vader; the Inquisitors Sixth Brother, Ninth Sister, and Tenth Brother; and at least twelve Purge Troopers traveled aboard the Infernum through hyperspace to[3] the Outer Rim[7] planet Mon Cala to investigate the potential presence of a Jedi while the Mon Calamari negotiated with the Galactic Empire. As it exited hyperspace, scopes aboard the Imperial-class Star Destroyer Sovereign detected the shuttle. A pit crew member reported the ship's presence to Governor Wilhuff Tarkin, who requested its designation. Upon learning its name, Tarkin permitted the shuttle to travel to the planet, informing a nearby lieutenant that[3] he[7] was familiar with the ship and that it represented a different form of diplomacy.[3]

As the shuttle descended to a landing pad in Dac City, it caught the attention of the Mon Calamari Raddus, who inquired who was in the starship to the King of Mon Cala, Lee-Char. As the Purge Troopers and Inquisitors disembarked the ship, they were approached by the chief of security, Commander Gial Ackbar, requesting to know why they had landed an assault squad on[3] his[7] landing platform. The Ninth Sister gave the commander a datapad with an Imperial writ featuring the Emperor's Seal that read the Inquisitors were not to be interfered with. Ackbar spoke against the writ, and the Ninth Sister instructed him to speak with Vader, who was exiting the shuttle.[3]

As Vader and Ackbar discussed the group's mission, a shuttle carrying the Imperial Ambassador Telvar exploded nearby,[3] spurring a war to break out. While Imperial forces battled against Mon Cala's military throughout Dac City, the Infernum's passengers battled near the shuttle, securing the area. The group left the shuttle on the landing platform and proceeded into the nearby palace to confront the king. While they interrogated the king, giant waves crashed over Mon Cala's surface—a plan put into motion by Lee-Char to repel the Imperial invaders—which included the landing platform the Infernum resided on. The Infernum, along with everything else on the surface, was destroyed by the waves.[8]
