- "Have you forgotten how he helped himself to the Presager dagger on Hakotei?"
- ―CR-8R to Lina Graf, regarding Thom Hudd
Hakotei was an astronomical object associated with the Presagers of Hakotei, a group that ritually sacrificed individuals to receive visions of the future. The Presagers were thought to be extinct by around 82 BBY, but one coven, led by an insectoid alien priestess, survived until its members were inadvertently killed by Jedi Padawan Dooku on the planet Asusto. By around 1 BBY, Rebel Alliance Lieutenant Thom Hudd stole a Presager dagger while on Hakotei.
Description
The terrestrial astronomical object Hakotei[3] was located in the D'Astan sector's Hakotei system, which was in the Outer Rim Territories[1] and New Territories.[2] It was situated in grid square O-6 of the Standard Galactic Grid.[1]
History
- Dooku: "Who are you?"
- Kostana: "The Presagers of Hakotei. […] I thought you were extinct."
- Priestess: "We survive—tt-tt-tt—hidden from the universe. The last coven."
- ―The Jedi address the Presager priestess[4]

Hakotei was associated with the Presagers of Hakotei, a ritualistic organization which practiced death magic, sacrificing millions of individuals in order to receive visions of the future. The Presagers were thought to be extinct[4] by around 82 BBY,[5] although one coven, led by[4] a priestess—an insectoid alien dark sider[6]—survived in secrecy, eventually hiding on the planet Asusto.[4] Around that year,[5] the coven lured Jedi Master Lene Kostana; her Jedi Padawan, Sifo-Dyas; and the Padawan Dooku into a trap in order to sacrifice them, but the Presagers were inadvertently killed by Dooku using Force lightning after the ritual subjected him to a vision of the future.[4]
Dooku later documented the events in his journal.[4] Around 23 BBY,[7] Dooku allowed his recently recruited Sith assassin, Asajj Ventress, to find his journal during her investigation into his sister Jenza's location, and she listened to the portion that mentioned Hakotei.[4] Lieutenant Thom Hudd of the Rebel Alliance,[3] a former thief,[8] stole a Presager dagger on Hakotei at some point prior to[3] a secret mission led by Commander Lina Graf[9] around 1 BBY.[10] After becoming separated from Hudd in the castle[8] of the Dark Lord of the Sith Darth Vader[9] on the planet Mustafar, the droid CR-8R reminded Graf of the lieutenant's theft on Hakotei, among other incidents.[3]
Behind the scenes
Hakotei was first mentioned in the name of the Presagers of Hakotei in a flashback in the audio drama Dooku: Jedi Lost, which was written by Cavan Scott[4] and published on April 30, 2019.[11] It was identified as a distinct astronomical object, and its spelling as Hakotei, in the 2019 Free Comic Book Day issue of the 2017 Star Wars Adventures comic series, also written by Scott and published by IDW Publishing[3] on May 4, 2019.[12] Dooku: Jedi Lost's script release,[13] which released on October 1 of the same year,[11] confirmed the two were the same.[13]
