- "There were stirrings of political conflict when I left my people for the Empire those many years ago. I assumed the Aristocras would settle their differences, as they have so many times before. This time, perhaps they could not. Or perhaps the Grysks have made deeper inroads into our culture than I'd hoped."
- ―Thrawn
The Grysk plot to engineer a Chiss civil war occurred in the Chiss Ascendancy and nearly led to a civil war among the Chiss species[1] in 18 BBY.[4] The Grysk Hegemony, an expansionist empire based in the Unknown Regions of the galaxy, sought to destroy the Chiss Ascendancy, which it viewed as a bulwark preventing the Grysk conquest of the entire Unknown Regions. To accomplish that goal, the Grysks dispatched the agent "Jixtus" to arrange both infiltration and exfiltration of the Ascendancy and destroy it via a civil war and an invasion. The crisis lasted at least a month.[1]
Behind the scenes
The plot appeared in Timothy Zahn's 2021 novel Thrawn Ascendancy: Lesser Evil, the final installment of Zahn's Star Wars: The Ascendancy Trilogy.[1]
