"We have everything Supreme General Ba'kif sent us to find. The murdered refugees were Paccosh from the Rapacc system, their oppressors are called the Nikardun, and the Nikardun leader is General Yiv the Benevolent."
―Senior Captain Thrawn[1]

The mission to the Rapacc system was undertaken by Senior Captain Mitth'raw'nuruodo of the Chiss Ascendancy in order to investigate the point of origin of a refugee starship that had been destroyed by the Nikardun Destiny in Chiss territory. After locating a second derelict vessel, Thrawn located the vessels' origin in the Rapacc system. With the assistance of Admiral Ar'alani and the Vigilant, Thrawn managed to discreetly maneuver the heavy cruiser Springhawk into the system, boarding an abandoned mining station with the caregiver Mitth'ali'astov. The Nikardun, having noticed the Vigilant's intrusion, sent a group of subjugated Paccosh to board the station. Thrawn spoke with the Paccosh, learning the identity of the Nikardun and their leader, General Yiv. The Paccosh let Thrawn leave without reporting him to the Nikardun, allowing Thrawn to pursue further investigation into Nikardun activities.[1]

While aboard the asteroid mining station, Thrawn and Thalias met the Paccosh leader Uingali foar Marocsaa. Uingali gave Thrawn a double ring depicting a chimaera.[1] The chimaera would eventually come to be Thrawn's personal insignia and the name of his flagship when Thrawn was an officer of the Galactic Empire.[3]

Aftermath

Four and a half months later, during the Nikardun campaigns; Thrawn, Thalias, and the Springhawk returned to the Rapacc system, searching for remnants of Nikardun forces. There, Thrawn returned the Marocsaa subclan ring to Uingali, and also encountered the leader of a group of refugees known only as the Magys.[4]

  2. Thrawn Ascendancy: Chaos Rising establishes that the mission to the Rapacc system takes place in the months prior to the mission to Batuu. Thrawn: Alliances places the mission during the Clone Wars and after the trial and exoneration of Ahsoka Tano. Star Wars: Galactic Atlas dates both the end of the Clone Wars and Tano's trial to the year 19 BBY. Therefore, the mission to Batuu must also take place in 19 BBY, and the mission must have occurred around that year.
