Letter of marque
Currently, I am seeing no difference between the Star Wars letters of marque and the real-world version: letter of marque. Both are used to allow privateers and pirates to attack a government/group. So I believe this violates WP:DICT.

- The point of WP:DICT is to free editors from having to document terms that are adequately defined in dictionaries. The fact that letters of marque aren't in modern use doesn't change the fact that anyone wanting to know what they are can turn to real-world references. And since the privateer article already documents that this role has moved from the high seas to the spaceways, our letter of marque article isn't necessary even to cover that fact: it is privateering that has this otherworldly quality, not the legal mechanism behind it. AnilSerifoglu undermines his own conclusion by citing that article. The letter itself serves identical roles in our world and theirs. Asithol (talk) 05:21, 14 September 2023 (UTC)

- Although they both have similar functionality, I think the in-universe license that allowed pirates to raid starships in hyperspace routes has that "otherworldly quality" mentioned in WP:DICT as opposed to the real-life practice from the 17-19th centuries. The IU articles for privateers and pirates exist for the same reason, in my opinion, even though they also have pretty much the same function as their real-life counterparts.

- Since this in the real world is something historical that didn't carry forward and was specific to a time period and certain parts of the world, I'm leaning towards keep. OOM 224 (he/him) 23:15, 12 September 2023 (UTC)

- While the text blurb provides some info regarding what a specific LoM said, this does not present any indication they are any different functionally from their IRL counterpart. - Thannus (DFaceG) (he/him) (talk) 21:48, 11 September 2023 (UTC)
