Vote #1: New Top Banners

So, related to the Visions CT, we've heard feedback from both editors and users about the confusion that having the CANON and LEGENDS banners on obviously non-canon/semi-canon articles. So, Preem and I (I think it was our idea? I have a splitting headache, I don't remember entirely) came up with the solution of adding new parameters to {{Top}}: ncc and ncl. These will be used instead of can and leg to display the banners below in the place of the normal canon/legends banners; we have black & gold versions for each continuity respectively.

I will clarify that these do not replace the usage of {{Noncanon}} or any other similar header templates; it's supplementary and is meant to convey to the reader immediately that the articles aren't canon to their respective continuities. They're meant to eliminate the confusion. These will apply to content from the Duel, Ronin, the Freemaker Adventures, Infinities, the non-canon Star Wars: Tales stories, etc. Whether or not it can be used on ambiguously canon stuff, that's up for a different debate.

That also includes changing WP:LG#Top point #3 to the following:

Continuity label. By default, Top displays an article as canon. If an article is Legends, the Legends banner is automatically displayed if an article has "/Legends" in its title, a canon counterpart with "/Canon" in its title, or if the parameter "canon=" is used in Top. If a Legends article does not fit any of these criteria, "leg" should be used to display the Legends banner. If an article is non-canon in its respective continuity, the article should use "ncc" or "ncl" instead of "can" or "leg" for Canon and Legends articles respectively.

Vote #2: New Banner Versions?

Additionally, Immi Thrax, who was kind enough to create these banners for us, pointed out that the tabs banners and the Legends logo on the book covers include lines above/below the text, and whipped up versions of the Top banners with those lines instead. This vote is about whether not to switch {{Top}} to use those versions instead.

  12. The lines work with the Canon/Legends tags at the top of the page, but they don't work with the banners since they're smaller and would look squished with the lines. Erebus Chronus (Talk) 17:26, 25 September 2021 (UTC)

Vote #3: Different New Banners?

Immi here! From the feedback on Vote #2 trending towards oppose, I've prepared another version that has the lines spaced farther from the text, which may be more appealing. Along with the slight spacing difference, I'm proposing three voting options: A. use these lined versions for both Legends and Canon, B. use these lined versions for Legends and no lines for Canon, or C. don't use either set of lines for either continuity.

  • So for articles like Rowan Freemaker, we'll put ncc? doesnt that indicate the first sentence isn't canon (when it is)? Manoof (he/him/his) (talk) 22:40, 24 September 2021 (UTC)

  • If a Legends article would otherwise have just {{Top|leg}}, would under the new proposal the correct version for an applicable article be {{Top|ncl}} or {{Top|leg|ncl}}? Can we modify the proposed wording so that this is clarified? Imperators II(Talk) 07:52, 25 September 2021 (UTC)
