May I present some mostly boring cleanup and update tweaks to Wookieepedia:Files. It probably needs a larger rewrite to guide users through uploading files and maintaining file pages, but let's start off with these.
- Under the Upload form section, add to the end: "Replacing an existing file with a new version can be done via the "Replace" option in the dropdown on the file page. Pursuant to the Protection policy, certain files are upload-protected, restricting their replacement to administrators to prevent potential abuse, such as for images that are highly visible or used in Interactive Maps approved via community consensus."
- Under the Upload eligibility section, rule 1, append "at least 4 days old" in parentheses and pipelink "autoconfirmed" to Wookieepedia:User access levels instead
- Remove rule 2 of Upload eligibility: "The user must have a confirmed email address in their user preferences."
- Under the File formats section, add this to the end of rule 5: "Upon a successful vote, the corresponding file page(s) shall display the {{FileVoteNotice}} template."
- Under the File descriptions section, change rule 5 to: "Files should be categorized by artist, licensee (source), subject, and type, if relevant categories and information are available."
- Under the File names section, remove "and name changes may be requested using the {{FTBR}} template" from rule 7 and add a rule 8: "All files on the wiki are automatically move-protected. Only administrators and Rollback users may move files to a new title, and any user may request files to be renamed using the {{FTBR}} template."
- Under the Metadata section, replace "or the VorbisComment in OGG files will be" with "are"
- Under the Usage section, add a new rule 2: "Per Wookieepedia:Consensus#File consensus votes, consensus votes may be held to determine specific uses of files on Wookieepedia. If such a vote has been held successfully, then the relevant page's corresponding talk page shall display the {{ImageVote}} or {{FileVote}} notice as a record of the decision."
These changes would clarify file replacement with our new policies on Interactive Maps (Forum:CT:Interactive Maps) and Rollback rights (Forum:CT:WP:ROLLBACK wording tweak), clarify what autoconfirmed means (a Fandom account that is at least 4 days old) and remove the email requirement (all Fandom accounts are emailconfirmed since at least 2021), codify our new templates for file consensus votes (which have been informally documented in Wookieepedia:Administrators' how-to guide#Consensus track), and remove the last mention of OGG files (Forum:CT:About those ogg files...) in the policy. There are a few mentions of the {{Information}} template with a lower-case letter 'I' rather than the capital letter—I am not certain which exactly is preferred or standard, however I felt compelled to raise it here since I discerned it a while ago. — Commandant Bhatoa (talk) 21:07, 3 June 2025 (UTC)
