The result of the debate was support both proposals, pending Fandom approval for new namespace. Cade
Alrighty, it's Cade here with yet another CT (I'd promise this is the last one for a while but you never know). So, this first came up during one of our frequent ConsistencyTM conversations in Discord, and ThePedantry suggested that we standardize all of our disambiguation pages to include (disambiguation) in the title. Now, that would affect roughly 60% of our nearly 5,000 disambiguation pages, but several users chimed in agreement, as this would make accidental links to disambiguation pages impossible to miss for the average editor - either you've got a pipelink to a title with (disambiguation), or you've got a redirect that's highlighted orange. It's a simple and clean solution to a problem that otherwise would involve extremely complicated JavaScript, if it'd work at all.
So, I'm suggesting we add the following to the top of Wookieepedia:Naming policy#Disambiguation, above the "In-universe vs. real-world articles" subheader:
- All disambiguation pages should include (disambiguation) in their title, and the target title without the parenthetical descriptor should be occupied by either a redirect to the disambiguation page, or an article or redirect that takes priority according to the following rules:
And that we update the second line of the "Disambiguation by continuity" section to the following: (bold text is new)
- Articles with identical competing titles should typically be disambiguated via a parenthetical descriptor, and the central title should then be a redirect to the disambiguation page, which should include (disambiguation) in its title. (Example: Dono redirects to Dono (disambiguation), which serves as a disambiguation page for Dono (Onderonian) and Dono (Squib)). The following exceptions apply:
Alternatively, Fred has suggested we move all disambig pages to a Disambiguation: namespace. We'll have to ask Fandom staff for the custom namespace, but it could work just as well. In that case, this would be the updates to the naming policy:
- All disambiguation pages should be located in the Disambiguation: namespace without a parenthetical descriptor, and the target title without the parenthetical descriptor should be occupied by either a redirect to the disambiguation page, or an article or redirect that takes priority according to the following rules:
- Articles with identical competing titles should typically be disambiguated via a parenthetical descriptor, and the central title should then be a redirect to the disambiguation page in the Disambiguation namespace. (Example: Dono redirects to Disambiguation:Dono, which serves as a disambiguation page for Dono (Onderonian) and Dono (Squib)). The following exceptions apply:
As a result, I'm splitting the vote into two - whether or not to move disambiguation pages at the target titles, and where to move them to. Vote #2 will determine which of the above text changes are made to the naming policy.

Vote 1: Move disambiguation pages to (disambiguation) or a separate namespace

15:56, 12 September 2024 (UTC) - FUCK YEAH. Now that that's out of the way, Cade mentions this would be a boon to editors, but I believe it also applies to readers - this is just giving the reader an immediate heads-up during the use of the search bar that a given page is a disambig instead of a full article. - The word “disambiguation” is long and I don’t think it should be an absolute requirement. I think that it should certainly be recommended, but not absolutely required.Drour1234 (talk) 15:17, 12 September 2024 (UTC)

Keep in mainspace with (disambiguation)
- I just don't see the need for another namespace. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. 01miki10 Open comlink 20:37, 12 September 2024 (UTC)
- Another namespace seems completely unnecessary. It could just confuse readers and newer editors, without having any benefit. CometSmudge (talk) 17:39, 18 September 2024 (UTC)

Discuss
- My take is that we create a separate namespace called Disambiguation. This makes it obvious in the search, keeps these pages from being counted in the mainspace article count, and removes ugly parentheticals. Master Fredcerique
(talk) (he/him) 16:26, 12 September 2024 (UTC)
- About moving it to a new namespace: Would this change how it is shown to user in the OtherUses template? Taking wikipedia for example they do use the (Disambiguation) for their pages. We don't necessary need to follow what they do, but it might go against user expectation. ThePedantry (talk) 17:07, 12 September 2024 (UTC)
- Per this, I would like to know how it effects how the template looks/works before voting. And I do agree that a separate namespace may be confusing, and a bit inconsistent. Right now, I think everything in the mainspace is for readers, and things outside it are primarily for editors. CometSmudge (talk) 17:19, 12 September 2024 (UTC)
- Also would moving it to Disambiguation: effect search results. It is nice from a user perspective to be able to have the Disambiguation pages show up in a search without having to turn on the everything filter. ThePedantry (talk) 17:07, 12 September 2024 (UTC)
- See the bit in the proposed policy passage about redirecting the corresponding mainspace page titles (where not occupied by actual articles, of course) to the disambig pages. Imperators II(Talk) 17:41, 12 September 2024 (UTC)
- A small thing: the second changed paragraph for the namespace option currently also says "the central title should then a redirect to the disambiguation page, which should include (disambiguation) in its title," which should be updated I believe. Also both options read "should then a" rather than "should then be a" :P Zed42

- Note that because interlanguage links will no longer function properly, any change in namespace will require a redirect of all pages, the parenthetical descriptor has or hasn't.あざした (talk) 13:39, 21 September 2024 (UTC)
