"Most ships of this vintage would have broken up or been raided for salvage centuries ago. But this? It was just sitting there, waiting to be opened up."
Leeka[1]

A starship contained the Tomb of Sarasti Thel, founder of the Brotherhood of the Ninth Door religious group. In the innumerable years since Thel's death, the ship had wrecked in an asteroid field, remaining there so long that it began to merge with the asteroids themselves. At some point, the wreckage became the home of a group of oclatars. When a group of pirates eventually discovered the ship which had been abandoned so long that it started merging with an asteroid field, they hoped to pillage any valuables within. They were soon, however, scared away by the danger inside, never to return.[1]

Years later, sometime before 32 BBY,[2] a Caphex archaeologist by the name of Shanto discovered records of the pirates' journey to the ship during an excavation. Seeing a prime opportunity to research an untouched starship of considerable, yet unknown, vintage, Shanto assembled a team of archaeologists to explore and document the vessel. Upon their arrival, the archaeologists had to restore atmosphere to the ship and bring their own power supply, including lights. As they worked to establish their base camp, Shanto became eager to scout the vessel's interior. He ventured ahead of his friends into the darkness. The team saw Shanto's light suddenly extinguish but could not see how. When Shanto did not return, the archaeologists, fearing the ship may be somehow haunted, sent out a distress call.[1]

The archaeologists' call was answered by Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn and his Padawan, Obi-Wan Kenobi. The Jedi investigated Shanto's appearance, and they were soon attacked by an oclatar. The encounter led the pair to discover the ship's connection to the Brotherhood of the Ninth Door. The Jedi eventually found evidence that Shanto was killed by oclatars and unlocked the massive door which sealed the Tomb of Sarasti Thel.[1]

Inside the tomb, the Jedi discovered a scroll laid to rest with Thel. Unbeknownst to the pair, however, a Brother of the Ninth Door, Minakatso, had boarded the ship, eliminated the oclatar threat, and followed the Jedi into the tomb. After a brief skirmish, Minakatso convinced the Jedi that he needed to destroy the scroll in order to protect the dangerous secrets within from falling into the wrong hands. Following the scroll's destruction, Minakatso vanished, and the surviving archaeologists began their research.[1]
