A fern chick was a type of bird that could be found on the Outer Rim planet Dalna. They could be kept in a coop.[1] In 382 BBY,[2] while on Dalna, Jedi Padawan Kevmo Zink helped elevate a fern chick coop so it could be repaired after a flood in the town Ferdan. Afterward, Zink mentally noted that he felt he should be spending more time with the Path of the Open Hand cult to carry out his mission—to find the location of the Rod of Seasons, a Force artifact that had been stolen from the Hynestian royal family by the Path—and that elevating a fern chick coop so it could be repaired was not necessarily helping him find the rod.[1]
Behind the scenes
A fern chick was mentioned in the 2022 young-adult novel The High Republic: Path of Deceit, written by Justina Ireland and Tessa Gratton as part of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project's[1] Phase II.[3]
