During the High Republic Era, the Jedi Order sent Jedi Master Zallah Macri and her Padawan Kevmo Zink on a mission to the planet Dalna after the Rod of Seasons was stolen from Hynestia Prime.[1]
The two Jedi came to Dalna following evidence that a local cult, the Path of the Open Hand, was connected to the theft. On Dalna, Zink encountered members of the Path and discovered that they viewed the use of Force powers as "abuse" of the Force. The Jedi eventually determined that members of the cult had indeed stolen the Rod of Seasons and had it in their possession: the Mother, the leader of the cult, had sent a team of operatives known as the Children to "liberate" the rod and other Force artifacts.[1]
However, when Macri and Zink entered the Path compound to retrieve the stolen artifacts, they were discovered, and the Mother unleashed a creature she named the Leveler upon them, which overwhelmed them and killed them by turning them to stone and dust. Jedi Knight Azlin Rell was dispatched to investigate their disappearances and uncovered their remains,[1] which he reported to Jedi Master Rinn on Elphrona. Rinn and Rell then both reported the mysterious deaths to the Jedi High Council. About two months after Macri and Zink met their ends, several Jedi missions to Dalna were launched. The Path themselves had returned to their homeworld after the Battle of Jedha and made a stand against the Jedi[3] that would be remembered as the Night of Sorrow.[4]
