"And here's a transmission from Dinwa Prime. Terrible atrocities have been committed in the name of the Emperor. We urge all people on these occupied worlds to…"
―Ephraim Bridger, in an anti-Imperial broadcast[5]

Dinwa Prime was a planet in the Inner Rim Territories that was occupied by the Galactic Empire. Imperial atrocities committed on the world by 18 BBY were cited in anti-Imperial broadcasts sent from the planet Lothal that year. In 6 BBY, Dinwa Prime's planetary governor was killed by what Imperial sources claimed was a locally-sponsored rebel. As a result, the planet was made a firing range for the Imperial Navy starships passing along the nearby Hydian Way.

Dinwa Prime was on Senator Bail Organa's listed of locations in need of humanitarian aid in 3 BBY, and was considered, but not chosen, by Alderaanian Princess Leia Organa for her relief efforts. During the Galactic Civil War, the light freighter Mighty Oak Apocalypse did a relief supply run to Dinwa Prime.

Description

"Dinwa Prime lay within reach of the Hydian Way hyperspace route through the Inner Rim territories. Imperial naval ships that passed along the route would often stop at the planet to test and synchronize their weapons from orbit or allow TIE pilots to practice bombing runs."
―Beaumont Kin, The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire[4]

Dinwa Prime was a planet located in[4] the Dinwa system[3] within an intersecting portion of the Inner Rim Territories[4] and the Interior.[2] It was situated at the coordinates L-8 on the Standard Galactic Grid,[1] being within reach of the Hydian Way hyperspace route.[4]

History

Imperial devastation

"Six years before the Battle of Yavin, the local planetary governor was killed by what Imperial officials described as a "rebel terrorist and traitor sponsored by the local community," though they presented no evidence to back up this assertion. Regardless, it was decided that a collective ongoing punishment was appropriate."
―Beaumont Kin, The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire[4]

After its founding[5] in 19 BBY,[6] the Galactic Empire occupied Dinwa Prime and committed atrocities there in the name of Emperor[5] Sheev Palpatine[4] by 18 BBY. That year,[7] the atrocities on Dinwa Prime were cited in anti-Imperial broadcasts sent from[5] the Outer Rim planet Lothal[5] by the revolutionary couple Ephraim and Mira Bridger.[8] A transmission beacon set up at a hunting lodge on[5] the Wild Space[9] planet Xirl helped relay these transmissions.[5]

In 6 BBY, the planetary governor of Dinwa Prime was killed. With little evidence, the Empire attributed the incident to a rebel terrorist fostered by the local community, and an ongoing collective punishment was decided on, a directive that made Dinwa Prime a firing-range for the Empire. Thereafter, Imperial Navy starships passing along the Hydian Way stopped at Dinwa Prime to use as target practice, either to synchronize weapons and make orbital bombardments or to allow bombing run practice for TIE pilots. The world was resultantly reduced to ruins over time.[4]

Aid and reflection

"What other runs have you been on?"
"Zeitooine. And Dinwa Prime, and Arieli. More recently Ivera X."
―Wedge Antilles and Thane Kyrell[10]

In 3 BBY,[11] Senator Bail Organa of the planet Alderaan gave his daughter, the Alderaanian Princess Leia Organa, a list of locations that required humanitarian aid, which included Dinwa Prime. While choosing which location to aid with her relief efforts, Leia ended up crossing off Dinwa Prime, ultimately instead choosing the world Chasmeene.[12]

The Mighty Oak Apocalypse did a supply run to Dinwa Prime.

During the Galactic Civil War between the Empire and the Rebel Alliance, the light freighter Mighty Oak Apocalypse did a supply run to Dinwa Prime to deliver aid. The Moa's copilot and navigator, the human and former TIE fighter pilot Thane Kyrell, was part of the delivery. The Moa later did a delivery of medical supplies to the planet Oulanne, where Kyrell spoke with the Alliance pilot Wedge Antilles. When asked where else he had done relief runs by Antilles, Kyrell recalled the runs to Dinwa Prime and a few other worlds where the Empire had committed war crimes like Arieli, Ivera X, and Zeitooine. Antilles, having visited some of those locations himself, went on to recruit Kyrell into the Alliance.[10]

A file on the "Dinwa Prime Firing-Range Directive" was kept in the "Reprisal Activities" section of the Imperial Archives. Reading the file, the historian Beaumont Kin recalled the Empire's atrocities at Dinwa Prime in[4] his[13] 35 ABY[14] book The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire. In the book, he commented that when an enemy eluded them, the Empire would mercilessly attack ones that they could reach instead. He added later in the book that, thanks to the effectiveness of orbital bombardments, the people on Dinwa Prime were just as dead as the people of Alderaan would inevitably be when the Empire destroyed their planet in one single blast with the Death Star superweapon.[4]

Behind the scenes

Dinwa Prime was first mentioned in the 2015 novel Lost Stars, written by Claudia Gray.[10]
