- "And then that senator from Naboo insisted on the bypass amendment, and it cost us the entire Delcontrian faction. We did everything we could, but the votes were against us."
"It doesn't matter. You will have a new bill in the next few days." - ―Nute Gunray and Darth Sidious
The Delcontrian faction was a group[3] that originated from the Delcontr system[1] of the Mid Rim Territories' Oriolan sector.[2] The group served as representatives in the Galactic Senate of the Galactic Republic during the Republic Era.[3] In 32 BBY,[4] the group voted with the Trade Federation on a proposed taxation bill until Senator Palpatine of the Mid Rim planet Naboo—secretly the Dark Lord of the Sith Darth Sidious, who discreetly controlled the Trade Federation—insisted on a bypass amendment, which lost the Trade Federation the Delcontrian faction's vote. Sidious, who had intended for the bill to fail from the beginning, was pleased with what he had learned about several groups in the Senate due to the bill's failure by studying their involvement. Sidious promised the Trade Federation's Viceroy, Nute Gunray, that the Delcontrian faction would propose a new initiative soon, though the latter remained skeptical of the group doing so.[3]
Behind the scenes
The Delcontrian faction was mentioned in Queen's Peril, a 2020 young-adult novel by E. K. Johnston as the second installment of Star Wars: Queen's Series.[3]

- ↑ 1.0 1.1 The Essential Atlas and Galactic Cartography: Official Discussion (post by jasonfry) on the Jedi Council Forums' Literature board (December 11, 2007): "I wouldn't get your hopes up re alien homeworlds, beyond simple stuff like the Planetnamian species getting a Planetnamia on the map or things Dan and I can account for with a relatively quick reference." (backup link) (screenshot) Jason Fry, co-author of The Essential Atlas and a number of maps in the current Star Wars canon (see a list here), stated his intention to create homeworlds for numerous species based on context implied from their names. Given this principle, this article makes a similar basic assumption for Delcontrian faction in relation to Delcontr system.
