Shea Ganandra (pictured) played Dantooine double-hand with Ort while traveling to Planet X.
Dantooine double-hand was a game[1] that shared its name with the Outer Rim world Dantooine.[2] In 382 BBY,[3] during the High Republic Era, members of the Path of the Open Hand cult traveled aboard the yacht Scupper to[1] the Wild Space[4] planet Planet X.[1]
In order to kill time during their journey, the cult members Shea Ganandra and Ort played Dantooine double-hand on an upturned crate in one of the ship's holds, which was mentally acknowledged by the Evereni Guide of the Open Hand Marda Ro. After they reached the Veil around the planet, the two were called to the Scupper's cockpit by the ship's owner, the prospector Sunshine Dobbs.[1]
Behind the scenes
Dantooine double-hand was mentioned in the current Star Wars canon in the 2023 young-adult novel The High Republic: Path of Vengeance, written by Cavan Scott as part of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project's[1] Phase II.[5] In the Star Wars Legends continuity, Dantooine double-hand was a card game that appeared in MedStar II: Jedi Healer, a 2004 novel written by Steve Perry and Michael Reaves as the second volume in the MedStar Duology.[6]
