"As I am the adviser to this group and to the Empire at large, I shall take for myself the title of Counselor to the Empire, serving as an interstitial leader only until Grand Admiral Sloane returns to us."
"Counselor is not a title in our record and it leaves us effectively leaderless—"
"Our record must evolve, much as the Empire must evolve"
―Gallius Rax and Hodnar Borrum[2]

Counselor was an advisory rank used by the Hetzalian government. Daan was one individual who served in the role.[1] The term "counselor" did not exist as a title within the Galactic Empire's government. Following the death of Galactic Emperor Sheev Palpatine and the loss of his puppet Grand Admiral Rae Sloane, Fleet Admiral Gallius Rax established the position Counselor to the Empire, claiming himself to be unworthy of the Emperor title and too modest for something like Grand Admiral. In truth, Rax used the title to rule over the Empire. General Hodnar Borrum objected to the title's creation, but Rax managed to secure its creation all the same.[2]

Behind the scenes

The counselor title was first mentioned within the novel Aftermath: Life Debt and then depicted via the Counselor to the Empire title.[2] The comic series Star Wars: Battle of Jakku — Republic Under Siege incorrectly features Gallius Rax using the title Counselor before he betrays Rae Sloane[3] when, as established by Aftermath: Life Debt, he only established the Counselor to the Empire title—the first counselor title in Imperial records—after losing Sloane.[2] Indeed, Sloane only learns Rax has become known as "Counselor Rax" during the events of Aftermath: Empire's End,[4] only for Battle of Jakku — Republic Under Siege 2 to mistakenly feature Sloane calling Rax as such.[3]
