- "They're as rare as Boldavian spit-spines these days."
- ―Piralli, to Moona
A Boldavian spit-spine was an entity[1] that originated in[2] the Expansion Region Boldavia system.[3] They were considered rare during the High Republic Era.[1] Around 377 BBY,[4] in the bar Enlightenment in the Holy City on[1] the moon Jedha, the Sullustan[5] Piralli spoke with his friend,[1] the Twi'lek[5] Moona, about a Sullustan Mark VIII Legacy-class space yacht that he was restoring, which was only missing its central processor. When Moona asked him why he had not just bought a processor at a market, Piralli explained that the yacht needed a specific type that was no longer produced and compared the rarity of the required processor to that of a Boldavian spit-spine.[1]
Behind the scenes
A Boldavian spit-spine was mentioned in "Missing Pieces," a short story written by George Mann and published in the short story collection Star Wars Insider: The High Republic: Tales of Enlightenment as part of the The High Republic: Tales of Enlightenment series within the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project's[1] Phase II on April 2, 2024. Prior to the story's release, the mention was included in an excerpt of the story posted on StarWars.com on April 1 of that year.[6]

(backup link) (screenshot) Jason Fry, co-author of The Essential Atlas and a number of maps in the current Star Wars canon (see a list here), stated his intention to create homeworlds for numerous species based on context implied from their names. Given this principle, this article makes a similar basic assumption for Boldavian spit-spine in relation to Boldavia system.
