A purrgil with a mouth of baleen
Baleen was a body part found on aiwha and used to eat krill.[1] While some purrgil had teeth scattered throughout their mouths,[2] others had full mouths of baleen.[3]
Behind the scenes
Baleen was first mentioned in Star Wars: The Visual Encyclopedia, a 2017 reference book written by Tricia Barr, Adam Bray, and Cole Horton.[1] It first appeared in "Part Five: Shadow Warrior," the fifth episode of the Disney+ television series Star Wars: Ahsoka,[3] which released on September 12, 2023.[4] Baleen was mentioned prior in the Legends continuity in the 2010 The Unknown Regions supplement to the Saga Edition role-playing game.[5] In real life, baleen is a material that baleen whales have instead of teeth, which allows them to filter-feed prey such as krill and plankton.[6]
