Krill were small crustaceans that lived in water in great numbers.[1] In the oceans of the planet Kamino, they were a major source of food for the semi-aquatic aiwha species, which had baleens in their mouths to filter krill out from seawater.[3] On the planet Sorgan, freshwater krill were farmed by an isolated village, and were used to brew the drink spotchka.[1]

Behind the scenes

Krill were first mentioned in the current Star Wars canon in the 2017 reference book Star Wars: The Visual Encyclopedia, which was written by Adam Bray, Tricia Barr and Cole Horton.[3] They had previously been mentioned in the Star Wars Legends continuity in the 2001 video game Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds.[5]

Krill made their first on-screen appearance in canon in "Chapter 4: Sanctuary," an episode of the first season of the Disney+ television series Star Wars: The Mandalorian.[1] The episode aired on November 29, 2019.[6]
