Asterpuff

Asterpuff was a shimmering gold-colored lichen from the planet E'ronoh that caused hallucinations when ingested. In 382 BBY, asterpuff was sold on E'ronoh, and Path of the Open Hand Force religion member Binnot Ullo and terrorist Rev Ferrol ingested it.

Description

Asterpuff was gold-colored lichen that reflected light, making it look like it was shimmering. It was native to the Outer Rim planet E'ronoh, where it grew in canyons. When inhaled or otherwise ingested, it had hallucinogenic and soothing psychological effects.^[1]

History

In 382 BBY,^[2] while the Path of the Open Hand Force religion member Serrena walked in a market in the Rook, the capital city of the planet E'ronoh, she heard a haggler call out that asterpuff was available at a bargain price, advertising that the substance would allow one to "dream the dream of the dead." Later, the Path member Binnot Ullo used the lichen, inhaling a pinch and offering it to fellow Path member Abda, who declined. Ullo explained that he needed some way to keep their time on E'ronoh tolerable as his eyes dilated from the substance.^[1]

Sometime after, Prince Phan-tu Zenn of E'ronoh's twin planet Eiram and Axel Greylark, son of Supreme Chancellor Kyong Greylark, noticed the lichen while on the sail barge Amaryliss going through E'ronoh's canyons. Later, on Eiram, Zenn mentioned that the planet had a lichen that disrupted communications, causing Greylark to ask if it was like the "happy lichen" on E'ronoh, referring to asterpuff. Sometime after, when the E'roni terrorist Rev Ferrol was preparing to try to destroy the E'ronoh royal family, he sniffed asterpuff.^[1]

Behind the scenes

Asterpuff appeared in the novel Convergence, written by Zoraida Córdova as part of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project's Phase II.^[1] The novel was published on November 22, 2022. Prior to its release, the mention of asterpuff was included in a StarWars.com preview for the novel on October 4 of that year.^[3]
