"Stinger needs a special 'key' to open the treasure room. She has one half, and, it seems, I have the other."
"It seems? You didn't know?"
"Well, it's an old artifact I stole — acquired — a number of years ago, and stashed at a hideout of mine, safe and sound."
―Hondo Ohnaka to Kay Vess[1]

The Architect's Scepter was an artifact used by the Khepi people during the construction of their Great Tomb in the Sayma Nebula. By 3 ABY, the scepter had been separated into two pieces that were acquired by Stinger Tash, the captain of the Rokana Raiders, and Hondo Ohnaka. During that year the two sections of the scepter were returned to the tomb in an effort to acquire the treasure left behind by the Khepi.

Description

The scepter belonged to a species called the Khepi. It could be separated into two parts, the hilt and the shank.[1]

History

"Without my half of the scepter, this prize will forever elude your grasp. I say it is time we make a deal"
―Hondo Ohnaka to the Rokana Raiders,[1]

The scepter was used by the Khepi people during the time they constructed their Great Tomb. According to Secrets of the Khepi a holobook published in 45 BBY by Suna Charoo there were corroborating records that mentioned the scepter was involved in the construction but it was unknown exactly how it was used. However Charoo also wrote about a popular theory by Doctor Lobo Ri which stated that the scepter was a multidimensional measurement tool that was used to expedite the construction of the tomb. Charoo went on to state that some sources claimed that the scepter was found in the relic markets of Mon Gazza.[1]

By 3 ABY,[2] Stinger Tash, the leader of the Rokana Raiders, had acquired the shank section of the scepter and learn of the location of the tomb in the Sayma Nebula from doctor Jessik of the Imperial Archaeological Division. After which she moved the raider's base to the tomb as she worked out how to open the treasure room of the tomb. She eventually pieced together that she needed both sections of the scepter to use as a key to unlock the treasure room. While operating from the tomb, the raiders captured a pirate named Hondo Ohnaka after he sought them out after hearing that they had found the tomb. Ohnaka subsequently escaped with the help of a scoundrel named Kay Vess. During their escape Ohnaka learned about the scepter and realized that he had stolen the hilt section and stashed it in his gang's hideout on Tatooine at least twenty cycles earlier.[1]

After the pair made their escape they later traveled to the hideout where Vess was able to recover the hilt section from R5-P8, an astromech droid that Ohnaka had left behind to look after the hideout when the rest of the gang abandoned it. Posing as raider who had captured Ohnaka, Vess returned to the tomb in a stolen raider ship. The pair eventually made it into burial chamber of the tomb along with a group of the raiders which included Tash. After threatening to smash the hilt if the raiders didn't work out a deal with him, Ohnaka suggested a crew vote on the matter. Vess still disguised as a raider proceeded to try to persuade the raiders to abandon Tash and elect Ohnaka as the captain of the raiders.[1]

After succeeding in convincing enough of the crew, Ohnaka combined the two sections of the scepter which begun to glow and activated a number of Khepi guardian droids around the tomb. After dropping the scepter, Tash picked it up and tired to command the droids but they did not heed her commands.[1]

The scepter was left in the tomb as Vess, Ohnaka and the raiders abandonded the tomb.[1]

Behind the scenes

The Architect's Scepter first appeared in the "A Pirate's Fortune" expansion for the Massive Entertainment video game Star Wars Outlaws,[1] which was released on May 15, 2025.[3] During the conversation to elect Ohnaka as the leader of the raiders the player has multiple options for how to convince the raiders. If they don't convince the raiders then Tash will be the one to combine the scepter and activate the droids. If Vess talks about the dangers of the scepter then Ohnaka will not combine the scepter and Tash will instead trigger explosions that will let in gas from the surrounding nebula.[1]
